Absolutely do not take sandpaper to your cue in this manner, this fool can't even clean his teeth never mind looking after a stolen cue.

cleaning a cue, scrunch a piece of paper up and then rub up and down a cue , keep going with clean paper until no grime is left on paper

Polishing pastes definitely can be used on ivory. One should avoid applying too much pressure or friction to avoid heating.

The problem I've had is that they aren't glued down good at all and have alot of different levels up and down. But for fixing something old like a tool never any of my expensive knives. What I do is take a smoked paper towel and just lay it on there a few seconds rather then just drip water cause it just runs into the holes and it's gone. The paper towel gets it nice and damp and good enough too use for rough job's on like yard sale tool finds that need a sharpening. Cause those yard sale find tool's sometimes are dirty or rusty and rather use this then use my good sharpeners first.

The last few years just used the one where you hold the sharpener down and run your blade thru the narrow V slits. It’d get it fairly sharp though not at all as in factory new sharpness. Want to get to that sharpness and now looking through videos. A lot to go through many different ways from diamond honing to whetstone or dry ones. From what grit either a coarser one to finer one. From expensive ones to less expensive ones. From the many different brands or get an Arkansas stone

Silly question: Next time you want to use it, do you clean the previous green compound or just add a fresh layer on top? Thanks! :)

I'm off to the nearest charity shop (once the lock down is over). I think this is the cheapest and best way to make a stropp. Also, is there a follow up video showing us how well this new stropp works? Also can you sharpen Gillette razor blades as well as knives?

Unless there are imperfections in the cue which you can feel while playing you should NEVER use anything abrasive on a cue. Oils from your hands won't hurt the cue. They actually penetrate the timber and help protect it. Cleaning the cue using methylated spirits facilitates that penetrative. Then use linseed oil or beeswax.

Totally AGREE!!! I hate a deep hollow grind with a steep V edge. They lacerate great, they pass through material very effortlessly but they can’t take the abuse a convex edge can. However, achieving a shaving sharp convex edge required a sharpening technique that took months to get right.

Don't listen to this nonsense. Use a very fine wood sandpaper o remove the old varnish. when all smooth then grab a piece of kitchen towel and use Boiled Linseed Oil rub a thin layer of oil on the shaft of cue and leave it for 12 hours or so then apply another thin coat and leave it for 48 hours to dry. Grab a dry piece of cloth and rub it for about good 10 minutes then start to use the cue.

You don't ever want to rinse the stone after using it. Those filings will help the next sharpening session go much better. Yet another KZfaq video with false information. Please stop teaching people wrong information!!!
@tomcuthbert-sayers1451
@tomcuthbert-sayers1451 4 жыл бұрын
LOL. If you do not rinse the stone, then you run the risk of not sharpening at a true grit. Thus, the stone will not perform like it should. Looks like the only person here teaching people "false information" is you. Take a lesson from Jordan Peterson, mate: "Set you house in perfect order before you criticise the world". It is one thing to get the facts straight; it is quite another thing all together to share ignorant opinions.

@@tomcuthbert-sayers1451 I believe we will never convince each other to try the other's method, so I wish you luck. I will continue with my way because it is better in every way from decades of practice. And you will continue with yours because Wikipedia said so.

If you didn't get the results you expected, try Dialux. It's a high quality product made in Europe. Choose the color appropriate for your needs, or buy a sample kit and find the right polish/compound for your application(s). IME, It's no comparison to Chinese products. It's very good. Best of luck.

Do not view it from the point of view of the user. These are terms used in the making of the knives, so should be presented in that manner. Blacksmith or manufactures create a primary bevel then a secondary bevel. User should only be concern with what side is sharp. its no up for discussion or interpretation.
