Baccano! is one of those rare gems where the English ADR just cannot afford to cheap out on and still respect themselves as red-blooded Americans. When the Japanese write and animate a story that takes place in the US, it gets positively personal for that Texas ADR crew and so demands extra impeccable care to get the voice direction right. Even when it was not what the guys in Japan had in first in mind. It's where this show, Cowboy Bebop, and Black Lagoon dubs really enhance the watch over their originals.

The original title is "Kobayashi-san chi no Mei Dragon", but Mei means "lost" in Japanese. In other words, Kobayasi-san is an anime about a lost dragon who becomes a maid. Do you understand that?

For me, I have to say the Bang Zoom dub is the best among the four English dubs of the CCS anime franchise, though as well I still notice a few mistakes in that dub while watching this content 😍🤩💖

9:35 as a kid growinh up with autism, adhd, you name it, I always seemed to gravitate to characters like joe. it doesn't make sense believe me I tried but I always found it compelling when things finally went their way because I agreed with them(again, doesn;t make sense, believe me I've tried)

ngl even just the intro (albeit a completely different tone and not a proper song) captures the cheesiness of butter-fly. I also admire how they realized that the intri was never updated to feature future antagonists, the ultimate digivolutions, or hikari... at all. they were so slay for being creative with the updated intros

Even the term "shock humor" is outdated. back in the 90s and early 2000 you could imagine someone clutching their pearl over someone saying this things on tv. Now we're all much more numb to it. And annoying the "social justice warriors" is not the same, it's only funny for a very particular group of people and for them it's more about scoring against the other team than anything.

The fun thing is, these days we have such a STUPID handfull of actually extremely talented NSFW Actresses that also do alot of SFW Work, that one could wonder why actual "professional" Hentai dubs suck to this day. Most of the Animation by single Artists has better Acting than what actual Studios pump out, so that should say alot about how far the Quality came imo. You may keep all the puns you find.

The Nelvana Dub is by far my favorite. I actually like all of the changes made to it, I think it makes for a much better show.

LOVED IGPX. Part of me wishes it went further than it did, but in the same way, I feel like the series in a capsule just fits well for what it was at the time.

You can't really cut costs with the VAs you use, but there are other aspects where costs can be cut that show through in the finished product. Rushing the various parts of production can reduce costs but also lead to subpar work. Too many dub VAs are insufferable and love to push their ideologies on people and into their work which makes me, and many other people, not really care about their constant whining about low pay.

Sometimes a dub VAs voice is just WRONG for the role and it has nothing to do with their acting. Emi Lo as "Rinku" in "D4DJ" for example, for me there were others with a voice better suited to the role, though there are other problems with the dub that make me tell people "just watch the sub". And for anyone thinking I'm a sub snob I will say, I like Emi Lo as Maomao in "Apothecary Diaries" more than freaking Aoi Yuuki.🤣

There is one word that is most important when an anime is being dubbed: Respect. Too many in the dubbing industry care more about themselves and their believes and ideologies than the original works. That's why we get things like the "patriarchy" line in Dragon Maid.
