How come they never put the drag wing on that race car. I know that car wasn't a contender but still.

Don White, Roger McCluskey, and Norm Nelson where outstanding in the Usac stock car series. I was fortunate enough to attend their races at Mid America raceway in Wentzville Missouri. As a kid it gave me a lifelong love of motorsports.

Penske/Porsche out Mclarened mclaren, thats why they left. Fuel regs forced the 917/30 out, then Shadow took over winning with the DN4. Fabulous race series it must have been.

I had a base 70 SE challenger an i put a AAR CUDA TRANS AN 14 TO 1 ALLUMINUM STEERING BOX an my challenger became super fun to drive i swear my base challnger tortion bar front end handled way better the all non dodge vehicles with shitty stock coil springs...the base formula for trans am cars was big block tortion bars small block motor the car would lean an it turned way better...dodge tortion bars could adjust front to rear weight just by raising the front end up or down just jack the car...my cudas an challengers were much better at 120 plus mph because they had aerodynamics from some NASA guy...but ford had the motor dodge didnt make a 302 v8 so they really were boinked over heating they tryed to destroke the 340 in 70 an wasnt great...its cool to see the cudas an challengers racing in second an in 4th....i think Swede savage won a race for dodge finally road america would be a good dodge track because the cuda body aero at over 120mph kicks in....Penskie was a force ..AMC beat dodge using mopar parts donahue won a title for AMC i always thought it was driving the boss 302 car...thanks

I grew up falling in love with Sportscar Racing at Mosport Park in the 80s and 90s. I just got back from Imola watching Penske Porsche 963s battle it out with Ferrari 499s in front of the Tifosi. Crazy that they were together 8 years before I was born, and I just got to watch the modern iteration at 43.

I never missed a Can Am at Mosport. The best viewing areas were inside the track at the top of the entrance to corner 2 and on the outside at the apex of corner 3. That stretch was where the races were won and lost and the cars were displayed to their very best. The best race series ever.

McLaren had been dethroned? A McLaren won the race. Yeah, they didn’t win the season but this was the first race and the Porsche had shown itself to be fast but not bulletproof so nothing was certain.

Thanks for showing us this piece of history, including history in the making with Porsche detroning Mclaren. Thanks too for not bastardizing the video like so many do, by stretching it to 16:9 or worse, cropping it in order to fake a 16:9 format.
