It’s a Berkley Gulp! Nighcrawler. They’re very scented and catfish love them. They don’t hold up very well though, usually only last 1 or 2 fish. I was also trolling it with a gold willow leaf spinner just above the hook, and catfish are really attracted to the vibration.

Wont fishing pliers work too? Instead of this tool?
@instaphippsyfishing
@instaphippsyfishing 2 ай бұрын
Yeah I think pliers would probably work just fine most of the time. I find this tool gets a bit of a better grip the way it clamps completely around the hook shank, that way it can’t slip when doing the flick.

Are you wondering about water coming into the kayak? I mounted it through an existing scupper hole, I believe my kayak has 6 scupper holes, a bit of water can splash in through all of the scupper holes, and then drain back out. The transducer mount blocks most of the water from splashing in, but a little bit still gets in, but there’s still 5 other open scuppers where more water comes in and out. I hope that answers your question!

@instaphippsyfishing
@instaphippsyfishing 4 ай бұрын
Steel would definitely be an improvement for this project. I don’t have any experience working with metal. I think eventually I’ll upgrade to the legitimate side bunk style ones. Good news is it has been over 3.5 years and they’re still holding up great. I haven’t had any issues even with driving on the highway and running the boat into the guide multiple times. I think the flexibility might be their super power! I was also concerned about them becoming brittle but that hasn’t happened either. Knock on wood 🪵.
