James! I love your content. Of all the people whose content I consume; you and Bart seem to be the most in tune with the dynamics of low stakes (2/5 or less). But.... that was a brutal call on the hand that V shoved pot (82)with 55. And I'm all for thin value, but that last hand's runout was smashing V's range. That thin value bet against the population will often result in us having to bet fold.

I play this range in 1/3. When you are getting fairly good cards this range feels GREAT. If you are not getting great cards you just open up a bit. These ranges are a super solid starting point for small stakes.

Last time I went to battle with Kings in a casino I caught the third king on the river. Busted aces with about $2000 + in the pot. Dude slow played me calling the entire time until the river. He actually started crying and left with his mousy looking girlfriend with green hair and a face covered in tats and piercings. I mean what did he think I had when the king showed its face on the river and I reraise him for 800?

Brunson is rolling in his grave with these new GTO players. He played the man and position. Yes, it’s great to have a plan {or a theory} but as Tyson said, it all changes when you get punched in the face. Daniel Negreanu is the current master to follow. But very few will have his autistic brain power and attentive super power so they play “theory”.

On your KTo hand, on the river you called with the nuts, which in some places is forbidden, you should raise every time with the nuts. Is there any reason you didn’t? Maybe something related to the rake? Thank you
@ThePokerBank7 күн бұрын
Brain fart + 100% certain we were chopping. The rake was maxed, so zero reason for me to just call unless I was tired and could have possibly misread the board =)
@arturankudowicz79609 күн бұрын
it all commest to speculation, because you need to make assumptions. the other player can have any cards he wants to play ergo your shove with such bullshit hand is just a gamble
@glyna515810 күн бұрын
Another example: If you bet half pot and get called, the pot doubles. After three streets, the pot is 2x2x2 = 8x its original size. But if you bet full pot and get called, the pot triples. After three streets, the pot is 3x3x3 = 27x its original size.

I dont know if it's different st lower stake, but at the table i usually play (2/5 5/10 live) even bad players will note that you usually bet 33% pot on that K73r flop and now you bet 66%. This doesnt mean they will fold K6s on the flop, but surely the will proced with more caution when they see your bigger bets. Also a lot of hands go multiway live and you are up with some fishes and some regs, maybe good maybe decent, so these one surely will note thw different size. Flop is the street i play more "close to gto as possible" against everyone. On the turn i start to deviate if necessary and River is surely the most exploitative street. I am really liking this way for playing gto/exploitative stile.
@jimbojones911813 күн бұрын
Bad players also think small bet size means you have nothing. So IMO just use your normal bet sizes with everyone, unless you have a read they are super strong then you can bet large.

James - Great Topic! I can also see this being applicable to Tournament situations in determining how to get all the money in by the river when deeper, or how to leave yourself something behind just in case you get called down and lose.

Another possibility is that simply your read on your opponents image of being a nit was wrong, which is highly probable when playing live poker given the small sample size and not seeing their hole cards most of the time.

Possible, for sure.

The problem with applying this to the table when playing is we know that from player population data that was shown on a red chip poker podcast with coach w33zel over betting the pot as a bluff had less success than betting an amount under the pot, so this would mean that in theory some bluffs can be assumed to be plus EV but could actually be minus in reality. The assumption that betting a bigger amount will always yield more folds is not actually true when we analyze player population data.
@ThePokerBank14 күн бұрын
The only issue is that it presumes that online and live population data are the exact same, which you can certainly argue they are not 👍

Good stuff, everyone needs to remember the basics. 2 other comments... 1. I've always called them stacks, not lines. maybe a local colloquial type thing. 2. I have played in rooms where if the all-in was over half of the original bet it was considered a raise and you could 3 Bet. Definitely know the house rules where you're at.
@ThePokerBank19 күн бұрын
1. Yup, lots of localization for these terms 2. 100% ask for the house rules in advance if you can 👍

does it mean that after calling with 25% pot odds and having 8% chances of making the best hand in a $160 POT, you should get called a bet of $215, 100% of the time?
@ThePokerBank19 күн бұрын
If you aren't getting correct pot odds at the moment, you need to know how much extra you need to make on future streets AND if you can reasonably make that extra amount
