Unfortunately, Notre Dame is not just covered with a surface coat of soot. The demo would have been more impressive if the limestone had been seen to be glowing white hot. That would have taken about half an hour with that blowtorch turned to maximum and playing on the one spot.

Dat sound when it's scrubbing on a really tough buildup. The last piece raises a question, though. That label is gonna go bye-bye when the laser hits it, right?

+Andrew Brannan The laser could potentially be tuned to not damage labels. It is, however, quite easy to block of / mask labels with a white piece of paper or tape that will not allow the laser beam to pass through it.
