I know it is just a fantasy - probably one that should be given an adult rating even, but I think trying to claim that there are lessons about personal loyalty, and love and needing to make authentic connections with people kind of misses the mark. If I woke up in a world like this I would take the entire repopulation angle seriously because you literally have to - it is the height of selfishness to think that your individual needs for authenticity or true love would have to take precedence over saving humanity from extinction; i am not even sure it would be enjoyable because of the pressure youd be under - I think this kind of story just revels too much in the setting without actually exploring the reality of the human race being under threat.
