I just bought this radio as a substitute for my Retekess v115, which, although makes for a good outside radio, sounds like a demented motorcycle in my ears. Hopefully this will sound better.

The programming on 750 WNDZ in Portage, Indiana is not totally religious. If you listen later in the day the programming is brokered as the station sells the airtime on the station.

Terrific review! I purchased this for $10 after you posted it around 8 months ago. I absolutely love this radio! For my usage, it gives me pretty much everything. I mostly listen to talk and news on FM here in NYC. Reception and clarity is exceptional. One way I use the radio is at night, falling asleep. The Snooze/Sleep feature really saves battery. In-fact, I use it whenever I turn on the radio. Presets are a must, as is the cool-blue backlit display. I've used the alarm a few times, and it works perfectly. You are correct about the stepped volume...it won't go to 0, but that isn't an issue whatsoever. AM is pretty good. Here in Manhattan with all of the skyscrapers and metal, I can pull-in WBZ in Boston, a 50,000 watt station. I really enjoy the Runningbyte DR-01, and am blown away what it gives for the money. Battery life is excellent. I use the radio a lot, and I get 2 solid months on a set of genuine 3 Duracell Power boost batteries, a 40 pack purchased at Costco for $17.00 on sale. I will be getting rechargeable Eneloop batteries to replace my spent ones. This is a real bang for the buck radio. The button layout is so simple and intuitive that you can operate it in full darkness. Don't hesitate to buy this. In-fact, I'd pay $40 for it.

Hi Todderbert, thanks for the bandscan. I'm waiting for my Qodosen DX-286 that I bought a few days ago. The Qodosen DX-286 seems to be one of the best FM/AM/SW and longwave radios out there. So yes it's gonna be very nice when Qodosen DX-286 arrives at my place here in Sweden take care Todderbert and have a nice weekend.

So the radio is monitoring frequency's from the airband that have been saved in memory?? Sounds great with the squelch Thanks for sharing 👍
@todderbertКүн бұрын
It does a decent job, needs a 2 sec delay to really make it a Scanner. The squelch is actually turned off. If I turn it on, the Radio will stop on the signal, but you will not hear anything. It seems the radio adds the Muting automatically when scanning.

Nice to see a video on this classic radio, thanks! A friend of mine has one that looked in a perfectly mint condition. He wanted to give it to me, but the radio is very sick. Doesn't turn on most of the time, sometimes does... a bit: some very weak noise from the speaker but no sign of life at all on its display. All buttons inoperative. It'd probably need a lof of work but I've been unable to find someone to fix it. Pity, really. Would have loved it I'm sure. It's my second bad experience with a classic Sony radio. I had bought an ICF-7600 which turned out to be completely deaf on FM and somewhat working on SW with a very, very low audio. Again, couldn't find anyone to fix it. It's taking dust in a drawer now... Bad luck with Sony. (edited for typos)

You can tell a radio is from the 1980s if it says "Quartz Clock" on the digital clock display! 😀 What's amazing is that Todd's ICF-2010 has stood the test of time. Most liquid crystal displays go bad over the decades - they stain, darken and turn brown with age. It would be really great if Sony agrees to license the manufacture of their old radios to Tecsun, just like Grundig did with Eton. 📻🤔

I picked up mine here in Japan last summer (local brand: “Cougar 2200,” same model number, but with the Japanese 76-90 MHz FM band). Came with its companion antenna coupler which is…mildly useful? Did a full disassembly, cleaning/polishing, capacitor replacement, swapped in LED lighting and re-aligned it. Still some tweaking to do, but the audio is so rich, and its AM reception is glorious. Interesting that yours has the same brown front-panel coloring as my Japanese model. Other US units that I’ve seen have a black front panel. Maybe they sold 2 versions over there?

Try using the synchronous detection when listening with the radio on the AM band. Use the feature on my Sony ICF 7600GR. Helps with adjacent strong stations to null them out to recieve weak ones.

Thanks for your great videos! I have ordered a replacement DX-286 because I can't seem to program the clock & world clock. This is the most complicated radio I've ever owned, and perhaps the best one of my collection for DX'ing. (I've just ordered the Sangean PR-D19) I do have some wonderful radios, from Sony, Raddy, Sangean & Tecsun. Perhaps it would help many of us if you would do a short video on how to set the World Clock & time?
