This brings back some great memories. I rode tens of thousands of miles in my dad's sidecar outfit, including a two week trip to Switzerland, Austria and Italy in '62. I've tried to remember the sensations of riding 'in the chair' and this has helped a lot. Thanks.

Hi, it is 'Motorcycle Brake Pedal Cover CNC Pad For Harley Sportster XL 883 1200 V-Rod' - eBay number: 296268339338. Needs a bit of tweaking to make it fit, I built it up with small cut pieces of rubber sheet underneath and needed longer screws. Thanks for your interest. 👍😁

Thanks for posting this. I was particularly interested as three of us did the entirety of the Gt. North Road on bikes in July - Yorkshire, London, Edinburgh, Yorkshire. I'm old enough to remember when sections of it were the A1, back in the 60s/70s. The urbam stages were a drag, particularly as we were unlucky with the weather for much of the route.

Thank you for this video, it's definitely helpful and helped sway my decision to buy an AJS Clubman second hand. I definitely like the idea of a list of modifications you must do to a new bike. I noticed your rear light is not stock and looks cleaner. Was it a direct swap? (not requiring modifications). I couldn't quite tell if it was the AJS round brake light from their scramblers. I'd love to know as I think it looks very nice.

Hi there! What is the oil type you use? I bought 2021 Moto Guzzi V7 Special. It is only got 100 miles. I will collect the bike next week. I will change the engine oil because it´s too old. I guess the best option is to use engine break-in oil 600 miles and then switch to synthetic oil. I alredy bought LUCAS ENGINE BREAK-IN OIL SEA 20W-50

Hello, handbook says SAE 10W - 60 - JASO MA, MA2 - API SG, Gutsibits sell it as: ENI 528691 i-Ride moto GP 10W-60 (also Amazon), so that is what I use. (Gutsibits order code: OIA01051). 😊 I think 20-50 will be too thick when cold and not thick enough when hot.

Thanks very much for these videos. I’m watching them (I’m halfway through Part 2 as I write) because my fuel pump is sometimes struggling to make enough pressure, and so I’ve bought a replacement from AJS and am contemplating fitting it myself. Having seen the videos once, I think I’ll watch them again before deciding whether I should do it myself, which I’d prefer because I can give everything a good clean and assess the hoses etc, or ask the really smashing mechanic I use to do it. So, thanks again.
@valvegeek
@valvegeek Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your interest. Changing the pump is really quite straightforward, it's removing the tank that was the puzzler! Lke I said in video, best to cut the hose to the injector (but have a spare to put back on!) make sure the filter is removed from its bracket, then it should be on its way. New clamps on the new hose when you replace. The piece of hose I ordered from AJS web site fitted, the other hose that I had, that should have been identical, wouldn't.

You are 1 of only 3 or 4 people that have made videos on this generator. I believe I happened upon a design flaw in the Coarse Attenuation switch that prevents it from outputting a signal when the Low and Middle outputs are selected. I implemented an easy workaround and am anxious to hear other's opinions on the approach - or offer better ideas. I made a clip on my channel that shows the approach. If interested, you can jump in to 6 minutes and 41 seconds to see where I address it. Since there are only a handful of people who have made a clip, I'd be interested in finding out if you are seeing the same problem - where RF output only appears on the High setting..
@valvegeek
@valvegeek Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for your interest. 1. You seem not to have noticed that originally, before you modified it, by removing 2 resistors, the output is a pi attenuator, the arrangement of resistors is not a mistake. 2. The pi attenuator is provided for making very small amplitude signals, such as you would get from an aerial antenna. Therefore, the RF1 could be plugged directly into a sensitive receiver input without overloading it. 3. No, the RF1 was never high performance equipment, so it isn't perfect, but basically does the job. Better than none at all. 😊 4. For example, bear in mind resistor value tolerences, so it's quite possible that 680 Ohms measures as 620, if the value tolerance is 10% (I'm just guessing that it is). Also, if your meter is accurate... 5. Given that the output is a pi attenuator, and that the attenuated levels are very small, I don't see a problem. 6. There is no 6. 😁 Pretty sure I tried the lower output levels into my Tektronix 'scope and if memory serves there was some noise at the lowest setting, in other words the 'scope was also getting stray radio and EMF from local SMPS etc. Hope this helps!
@pinballpsycho
@pinballpsycho Жыл бұрын
@@valvegeek Thank you. Much appreciated. It isn't that I didn't notice it it's that I didn't know it. I'm just starting to learn. So the lower two coarse settings would work as designed in the right circumstances? In other words, were you able to get the Low and Middle coarse settings to work on your RF-1 for their intended use? I've pinned out the video until I understand this issue better. I removed only one of the resistors. EDIT: Wait, I see. You were able to read a signal on those settings on your Tektronix. Okay. I'll put the resistor back in and give it a try. I'll let you know... Thanks again.
@valvegeek
@valvegeek Жыл бұрын
@@pinballpsycho Hello again - no problem - I found a pi attenuator calculator on Internet, there are several. The RF1 has a 2-steps attenuator, and with the original resistor values, the calculator gives -30 dB reduction for each Middle and Low stage (they're identical). So, -60 dB after both at the Low setting, i.e. 1,000:1 reduction (20 dB = X10). So at the Low range, suppose the output from the pot was 1V, the output from the socket would be 1 mV. Also, each stage of the attenuator presents a source impedance of nearly 50 Ohms, (actually 42 or so), this is roughly compatible with coax cable such as is typically used for antenna feeds, which is useful. As I said I'm sure I got outputs from middle and low - in any case, the way the resistors are configured, it can't not work - unless there's a problem with the switch, e.g. dirty contacts - so then just depends how sensitive your equipment is. Hppe that helps. 👍😊
@pinballpsycho
@pinballpsycho Жыл бұрын
@@valvegeek Thanks again, very cool. I did finally find a clip where someone was using the middle setting. I;m not sure what the power level is but he is reading a distinct wave on his scope. I've sent out a question to see if he can tell me what he has. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bZZ5mLFkmdLSaJ8.html
@valvegeek
@valvegeek Жыл бұрын
@@pinballpsycho I did some more research - so each stage of attenuation is -30 dB, this is the dBV scale, for Voltage levels. 30 dB is a ratio of 31.6:1. Two of those gives 1,000:1 (31.6 is sqr of 1,000). So if the fine control pot is set to output 1V, then Middle will give you 30 mV and Low will give you 1 mV. Hope that makes sense. 😊
