I love this channel man, this was was the best. I owe so much for the cool things I'm doing now to getting engrossed in the tool/deftones lessons back in the day, much love from the UK. 🇬🇧

I don't know, I somehow have the impression that the last song on Pablo Honey's album later defined them. Not Creep, but that last song. When I listen to their albums in order, the first album kind of just goes by, without any excitement, except for that last song, but all the albums after that are little masterpieces. And now, looking at those bands, who were not satisfied with the first album, for example, Tool and Deftones, what kind of music they created later, how they grew up learning from mistakes and bad production, what a publisher wants, etc. They are without a doubt the best and most creative bands of our time. Maybe Tool and Radiohead are the biggest bands of our time, I don't know if there are bigger bands, of that scale and that influence on music.

I love Taylor Swift, but 1989 was always the only album of hers I didn't like, but I could never explain why. Everyone else loves it so much, and I couldn't understand what I was missing that everyone was hearing and loving, or conversely what I was hearing that everyone else was missing. Now it all makes sense, because I am such a melody person first and foremost. I think she is a good melody writer in general, but something about this album always felt fundamentally different from all her others. The explanation about the sheer amount one-note melodies spells it out so well. I know she peppers them throughout her entire catalogue, but this album is next level with it. Thank you for solving this mystery for me!

As someone who likes to make music. I live up to the most important rule in my life: If it sounds good, then it's good. I am lucky I'm not "tone-deaf", nor am I arrhythmic. Cobain and other musicians have proven that there are 'no rules' in making music. It doesn't have to be complicated. You don't have to study music theory imo.

power chords allow the listener to fill in the harmonic information..... my mind is actually blown, listener gets to add a layer of determining whether something is happy or sad or in between. I've always tried to do this with lyrics and wordplay, but doing that harmoincally is such a cool idea, especially when Curt was able to do that over and over again

respect! but if Kurt could see this, he might spit on your face! Haven't you heard what he said about "musicianship" Your 🎼knowledge is next level! But you are like a latte artist making the MOST AVANT GARDE flat white! But selling like 10 a day in the middle of the dessert! Nirvana is like STARBUCKS! BEST drinkable lattes! Selling millions up to date! Without even trying to sell... JUST PLAY YOUR GUITAR 6 months without breaks and u will be able to compose masterpieces! Music Theory is just a handbook of all possible drinks at a Fancy Coffee Bar! GRUNGE GUITAR PLAYING is just like pouring 1000 lattes a day and making 1000 people days!

Leon Russell said that the best songwriters are thieves, but they cover their tracks. He explained that this was done by ‘stealing’ a chord progression of a successful song… CHORD PROGRESSION! Some of his greatest songs were written in this way. This form of theft is not plagiarism, but inspiration.

Hey Friedemann, I like you very much, and I have watched many of your videos, and learned a lot from them. Glad to have you back! But there's one thing: if you are indeed a successful songwriter, can I ask what songs you have actually written? Are they great songs? Maybe you could provide some links? I think that would be the best advertisement for your course.

Hello! You haven’t posted in some months so I’m not sure if you’ll read this but I practice my songs every single day back to back repeatedly.. this is probably called the beyonce technique lol but I practice it so much let’s say about 100 times a day or every other day or 100 times total between two or three days.. I think this process is what makes me get bored of my song or tired of the lyrics so I hear a new instrumental and begin the next song writing process then I practice those lyrics 100x then the process starts all over again.. this is hard to explain but how would you go about this?

I think people miss the fact that Kurt played all his 'powerchords' with the same A major shape, so he was always playing them with his ring finger barred across, sometimes you would hear the extra notes to make it major, sometimes not. Its not something to overanalyse, its just sometimes hitting certain strings.
