One of the most unique games ever made. Nothing more than a few lies and you're good to repeat the loop until the realization of what you're supposed to do. That's it, no hints, all depends on you... I remember playing it in my youth, PS2, and having no idea on how to unlock the true ending. What fascinates is the philosophical overdose of behavioural implications. Something that modernity lacks. Despite the distance between Baroque and Persona 3 FES, I do truly appreciate their uniqueness. It's not simple vain entertainment, there is knowledge to be learned. Baroque deserves a remake.
@nikodem123asdf11 күн бұрын
@@desprezolorde there are hints in the game just not in the sense we're used to them in the modern day. The NPC's update their dialogue every time you die and after a few deaths at the same point in the story Eliza starts to give you more and more direct instruction. When I was collecting these scenes I made her so tired of me messing up on purpose that instead of vague instructions like "I need your pure water" she went to "bring me your idea Sephira so I can purify the consciousness orb and restore your memory". It does take quite a lot to make her lose her patience but the game does have hints just hidden.
@desprezolorde11 күн бұрын
@@nikodem123asdf Interesting. I was too busy trying to understand the inhabitants' misery, reason with the Archangel's lies, lost in the maze looking for the ones asking to be purified, making new acquaintances... And then comes the Absolute God. It's inevitable to not compare her appearence with Helel's design. Helel's one of Lucifer's aspects. It took a while to meet the wandering maidens and learn what they wanted. I deduced that the Collector was essential for it. Not that I'm transferring my responsibility to the NPC's, but, I was too busy trying to save them from their struggles, instead of focusing on my own. A recurring incident in most's lives. Congratz for your analytical skills. If I had to define Baroque in a single metaphor, I'd say it's like "playing chess without understanding the rules, while having overly complex rules to be understood". But that's what makes Baroque what it is, and I wouldn't want it otherwise.

i never found the first dungeon to be too troublesome. you're a bit of a glass cannon in this game anyways, and the block button carries me in some fights, and if that fails, running around them typically works wonders. the constant returning to get supplies topped off before the shop is annoying tho. as for the dungeon itself, its...kinda meh. sure its well-designed in that it doesn't hold your hand, but it also doesn't do anything great either, and the rest of the game is more fun at large. its never been enough to put me off. one challenge i am reminded of is the No Escape run i tried of Dark Cloud 2. you can save between levels, but if you can go to the next floor, you have to, and no revisiting places unless the story mandates it. i am positive this challenge is impossible in DC1 due to the high restrictions at the beginning.
@nikodem123asdf23 күн бұрын
the problem I ran into constantly is that the supplies the mayor gave me just weren't enough to get past a floor if the key was on a rock enemy or if I kept getting unlucky with what enemy has the key. The first dungeon isn't impossible or anything it's just really boring and annoying to deal with and it sets you in the wrong state of mind for the rest of the game. Like I didn't get the message that fighting enemies in the back rooms was even an option cause I didn't have enough durability to even consider fighting them.
@theamazingpuggsy38723 күн бұрын
Personally I played dark cloud 2 first, then I went back to Dark Cloud 1. While Dark cloud 2 is clearly better, The differences between 1 and 2 made Dark cloud 1 felt refreshing. And after beating the difficult dungeons in Dark Cloud 2, I didn't have much issue with the first dungeon in Dark Cloud 1. Although it took me some time to figure out how to beat the first boss.
@nikodem123asdf23 күн бұрын
All bosses in Dark Cloud 1, aside maybe from the final boss, are terribly designed. Even when you do the "right thing" it still feels like you're doing it wrong. Biggest offender was the ice queen who could re-freeze you before you thaw out of the ice block. Also equipping anti-freeze amulet in that fight does nothing cause her freeze is special. But yeah none of the dungeons, even the post game one, ever get to be as annoying as the first one in my opinion.

I never played this, not even the original. The original looks more interesting to me because of horror aspects, but its combat seems to be based on dice rolls and RNG. Is this true for the original?
@nikodem123asdf23 күн бұрын
Not much more reliant on RNG than any other RPG. The aspects of it that are really random are the items and hazards you come across. Both original and the remake are very similar in terms of randomness, if anything the remake has more of it because there are more weapons and ways to interact with the NPC's and such. The remake is only easier cause the controls are much more user friendly and you can squeeze past enemies while going through corridors, in the original on the other hand you get blocked if there's anybody in your way.
@psnfailout00023 күн бұрын
@nikodem123asdf When you say not much reliant, can you elaborate on that? For example, I've played the first two Elder Scrolls, and the RNG for attacks to successfully land was atrocious. I know it's meant to simulate tabletop RPGs, but that shit is just plain broken in a first-person game. Is OG Baroque's combat like that?
@nikodem123asdf23 күн бұрын
@@psnfailout000 ok that's what you meant, I thought you were talking about passives and such. In the Saturn/PS1 version there's a a little bit of randomness to the direction of the slash but, as long as the line of the slash meets the enemy's sprite an you're not too far, that's a hit. Some enemies are smaller and thus harder to hit cause you can't aim down do you need to wait for them to jump or wiggle the slash line to meet their hitbox. Thankfully you don't need to deal with silly MMO-esque accuracy rates where regardless of what the animation shows you miss.

What do you mean? The way widescreen worked on PS2 is: you select a mode that will show more graphics within the same resolution and then you're supposed to adjust your TV to actually have it be widescreen. The resolution was exactly the same regardless of the mode chosen. However R&C games have what I call "fake" widescreen where all it really does is cut off the top and bottom of the active area from 4X3 mode and that's that, there's no benefit, you just get less viewing range than in 4X3
