This advice is legit. People definitely need to understand what you said about other places not being built with you in mind. That, right there, is key. I moved to Portugal after years of research and I love it here, but there are times when I am uncomfortable, especially living out in the country. There are also times when I don’t understand why they (the Portuguese) do what they do. But that’s perfectly fine, it’s not America, it’s a different country and for me it is worth it. If anything, the experience of seeing things done different is enlightening. Ultimately, it was the change I really needed. Thanks for posting content, you are one of the reasons I finally left home to explore other parts of the world. 👊🏾

I don’t know if we were trained, tortured, or brain washed, but you are right I think the majority of veterans with a brain in their head make better expats and appreciate being an expat even more because we are finally free to wear flip flops and a T-shirt.

Why is it that it seems only Americans refer to themselves as expats? Most others living abroad or a different country refer to themselves as emigrants or immigrants.

Every single expat I know refers to themselves as such. And most aren't American. The nomenclature doesn't matter really. It's all the same thing. Just Geopolitical BS and posturing.

the only issue, off season has gotten harder to predict with unparalleled numbers of tourists now. everyone's taking the same "off-season" approach. might be time to fully shift to alternate destinations.

I haven’t been to half the restaurants I’ve read or heard about and I still recommend them to people.
@Minoritynomad
@Minoritynomad 21 күн бұрын
If you recommend a place that you haven't actually eaten at, your opinion is invalid because you don't actually know if it's good or not. That's part of the problem. It's like me recommending travel destinations I haven't been to. Many influencers do that, and the world is worse for it. This idea that all exposure is good is a fallacy. Large crowds of non paying customers create more issues for businesses that can't be balanced by the possibility some might actually patronise them. There's long been a movement to avoid "tourist traps" and overtourism. Your position is exactly how these places become overrun and thus become unappealing to travelers looking for good businesses to patronise without the annoyance of dodging selfie takers and long lines.

Pretty much any convenience store. 7/11 or Family Mart. Most malls have the carrier shops. All have prepaid cards. AIS for example as The One card. It's 200baht for 30 days of data. 100gb. Might be a bit more expensive now. But that's what it was a few months ago.

@Minoritynomad
@Minoritynomad Ай бұрын
Totally understand them. While I might not agree with the tactics, I understand the reasoning if that makes sense. And I can honestly blame one company. Airbnb. While the crowds and hotels prices are an issue. Locals are being priced out of their neighborhoods by Airbnb. Almost 20,000 active listings there. Thats a massive number. Especially given the price points.

Of course Europe is going to be more expensive than Asia due to local prices and cost of living. Plus it’s all about market forces. If Europe wasn’t so attractive it wouldn’t be so popular and the prices would be lower.
@Minoritynomad
@Minoritynomad Ай бұрын
I never made a comparison to Asia or anywhere else in this video. But the reality remains, Europe is the most expensive continent on the planet. Before I address your last sentence, are you justifying the prices throughout Europe because you believe it's "attractiveness" is what makes it expensive?

@Minoritynomad

The rail prices increase yearly. So yes. BUT, Companies like Flix have helped keep them affordable. Government run rails like DB are insane. Flix, good pricing and route options IMO. I would happily travel Europe entirely with Flix. Protests are happening for the reasons I pointed out in this video. #1 Inflation and governments arent doing much about it. #2 Overtourism is pushing locals out. I don't take cruises.

I spent 14 years of my adult life living abroad (Germany, Italy, Kenya, Djibouti) and have visited 19 countries. My recent 3 week stint in Thailand totally blew my mind. There needs to be a symbol (not words) to try to describe what Bangkok as a city does to ones brain receptors. Great overall content and thanks for inspiring minds to explore. @@Minoritynomad Appreciate the response. Looking forward to that Patreon discussion. I get the sense that Thailand is more of a covert society (ie. dont talk or write down) on a large range of topics. Reminds me of how a large minority of the privileged members of the community in UAE move. I spent 4 weeks hanging with a local Emirati that happened to be my same age (mid 20s at the time). My guy took me to all kinds of hidden gem nighttime hangout spots in Abu Dhabi. They were playing all kinds of classic 90s hip hop. Doing all our dances. The females there were typical conservative by day (wearing traditional dress) but at night and in this venue...they were super normal and wearing much less! And let's not even talk about the way they were nicely put together in all the right places. Salut!

I lived in the US for nearly 20 years. My hubby is American and I am an Aussie. Whilst over there I found nearly all Americans would tell me that they "loved America, but..." and then I would hear only negative things about it. I was always surprised by that. I would point out things that I loved about the US, and especially the American people. We are now back home in Australia, and I absolutely think Australia is the best country, but I will always be very fond of my time in America and to the people that welcomed me and made my stay there such a nice time!!

A lot of Europeans have this inferiority complex towards to U.S., which causes them to feel threatened whenever someone says anything positive about the country. They are locked in a one-sided competition with Americans.
@Minoritynomad
@Minoritynomad Ай бұрын
I lived in several different European nations. Dated Europeans. Many of my close friends are European. I say all that to say in my experience I don't think it's an inferiority complex at all. If anything, it's a superiority complex. Europeans tend to truly believe their countries are better than the states in many ways. And to an extent, its true. Objectively. Thats where it gets muddy. One side arguing subjectively and the other objectively. They'll never agree. But when you can sit down and have a conversation. The balance comes together. All countries have positives and negatives. And sometimes we cant see those when were inside the cultural norms.
