I don't know, I can't share your loyalty toward the Albanian people. They seemed rude to me. Hospitality appears only when you bring cash (only cash, lol). I've seen many instances of locals being very rude to poor people, exhibiting harsh behavior toward pets, and displaying lots of plastic smiles (grimaces, I'd say). I personally encountered some establishments that didn't allow you to use their restrooms without paying them. And the most annoying thing is the absence of price tags at many places.

transit: you can buy a "Deutschlandticket" which covers all local transit all over Germany for just 49 €. You don´t need to buy single ride tickets for 3 €

'The people' is a huge issue so glad you addressed this because most vlogs don't. This is especially true for would be retirees. Nothing can ruin a beautiful place quicker than rude people who don't want you there. Thanks.

I live part time in Annecy. You picked the most expensive, tourist place to have a couple of beers. In most places, the beer and soft drinks are about the same price 4E.

As a matter of fact it's grown in popularity and hard to find. A recent article in the wall street journal of all places said demand has risen. Very popular in cocktails. But the minks are not increasing production. They only want to sell enough to maintain themselves.

Yeah, the American Express card is the “black sheep” of credit cards since so many places refuse to take them even in the US. The reason? They charge almost double what Visa and Master Card charge the business that accepts the AMEX card. Not the best choice for travel.

I live in France. It is a beautiful country! Just don't stay in the center of Paris if you are counting euros. Regarding Croatia, it is a small country along with its buddy, Slovenia. Both countries are selling any and everything as that is their job to take money from tourist. Half the country rents out their apartment to tourists and sleep on the couch of a friend or at their parents home. In exchange, they keep the rent money except for the 2% tax they pay to the government. Then the rest of the year, they do nothing. All the comments I read is how can they charge more. They don't realise that soon the world will be in another Great Depression. Tourists will remember what happened to them and never return.

Not enough English for me. ( ? ) -- A language barrier is a pain in the ass - for an old retired person like myself. -- The Philippines is even cheaper - all speak English - and they offer a renewable 3 year tourist visa. They are the happiest friendliest most welcoming people on earth as reported by many ! -- Hawaii like weather and most beautiful white sand beaches with best scuba diving anywhere on earth..... My retirement destination differs from your reason for being there. > Old people want comfort ! 🤗

Japanese work out alot, so much walking. I walk alot in America so I actually gained weight on my 2nd trip to Japan because food was so cheap. My first trip I lost weight because I was poor and couldn't afford much food on my trip. It is Amazing though that Japan is so thin, when compared to the US and EU their regulations on preservatives and additives are much less. Look at any Japanese Pastry or Candy and the additives are truly horrifying

Why don't Japanese people become obese? The answer is because we eat rice as our staple food. Rice is slow to digest, and the nutrients and calories taken into the body are consumed as they are during daily activities, so they do not turn into fat. Furthermore, because digestion is slow, you don't even think about having a snack afterwards. In Japan, this is expressed by the word Hara-mochi.(腹持ち) Compared to meat, fish, dairy products, and the same grains such as barley and soba, rice is digested more slowly and does not leave you hungry. This is why Japanese people don't snack between meals. If you are suffering from obesity, why not try replacing the staple food similar to Japanese food with rice? If you consider rice only in terms of calories, it's no different from other foods, but it digests slowly and doesn't make you hungry, so you can eat less and less often. Japan also has a unique Japanese way of eating food called Ichishiru sansai.(一汁三菜One soup and three dishes) This is a dish of soup (miso soup in Japan), rice, and three types of meat and vegetables. This constitutes one meal composition. Based on these cases, it is thought that obesity is low in Japan.

On the flipside, this so-called quest for the authentic and obscure (and thus the accompanying disdain for the mainstream) is also decades old. The only difference is that the mainstream doesn't make an effort to mock the obscure. But there's been parade of pretentious Gen Zers, Millennials and Gen Xers that have been uttering your phrase "immerse myself in [insert culture here]" in an effort to ALWAYS mock the mainstream tourists. Not saying mainstream tourism isn't tacky and downright hilarious (it is!) but so is the idea of thinking you're special for going rogue, when you're just also copying thousands of other "special explorers of authentic immersion." Just food for thought. I do love watching these IG vs Reality videos though!

I enjoyed watching this. I visited Split late last year and fell in love with it! Reasonably priced in October, beautiful people, stunning nature and had the best weather. Went to the islands Brac and Hvar. I also used up my 90 days in Schengen area (possibly overstayed it) and had to go to Montenegro which is very close by ferry or a bus. Stayed in Herceg Novi (so many stairs, so pain with the luggage) then went to the noisy Budva and Ulcinj, close to the Albanian border. I am in their capitol Podgorica for a week now. It's an hour drive from port Bar (that has a train that takes you to Belgrade, Serbia). I'll probably visit their beautiful Skadar lake and go back to the coast, then Belgrade and Istanbul, Turkey before I return Down Under. I liked Budapest a lot. It kept its demographics and its originality. Great food and coffee culture. I totally recommend. Good luck with your travels!

I can relate to all your points. Travel enhances our life experiences in a profound way that’s unique to staying in our local comfort zone. Travel and living abroad has changed me in so many ways, like you say, that I can’t effectively articulate to others. Even people I know who travel a lot will often stay more in their comfort zone when traveling, whereas I like to socialize a lot, get to know people, share and learn. Thanks for your stellar content! 🙏

I can understand that you hate american "mustard" aka the yellow stuff. In europe there are many variations, like the spicy ones (Löwensenf scharf), the ones with whole seeds and selected vinegar, the sweet mustard from bavaria. Those are different stuff. Not that you get those on your common streetstand, but in supermarkets.
