To be fair medium does not truly restrict the content of the work. It is more the industry surrounding the medium that dictates what works recieve resources. So it is more likely for you to see notable anime animation studios (Wit, EMT Squared, Mappa, Trigger, etc) take a chance on an outlandish premise as opposed to Warner Borthers Animation (Western Animation) or Sony Pictures (Movie Studio). This isn't to say there aren't any diversity in stories expressed in other media, just that the mode for their content is a lot stronger.

There is the entire Genre "Experimental" that exist Specially in movies and Comics and is in Terms of narrative the Most different even its just 1 Genre. Anime Overall is technically Not even its own medium. Its a sub medium from Animation. I agree with your Argument why you think Anime its unique but fact is its that the Same Argument can be use by every medium If you Just Look outside the Mainstream. Bruh if you like it, good for you. It's an opinion piece about why I didn't continue with it. It is not that deep.

This is a list based only on titles I watched in the Spring '23 season where the primary genre was romance, this does not include anime that were action/mystery titles with romance elements (ex. Oshi no Ko). 1. The Dangers in My Heart -Great use of Sakuga and build up to a young man coming out of his shell. The follow up in S2 makes it better in retrospective, but S1's antics stand on their own. 2. Insomniacs After School -An amazing slow burn that is focused on the aimlessness of adolescence. The romance element is a pretty good depiction about developing feelings for someone overtime and admiring traits in them that you wish you had. It also has the main character be into photography so I'm a little biased. 3. My Clueless 1st Friend -A sweet story that reminds me of simplier times of gradeschool crushes. 4. Tonikawa: Over The Moon For You S2. -A continuation of just the sweetest/cutest things I've ever seen, I also really love the introduction of Toast the cat. Although it annoys me that they're still teasing the Tsukasa big reveal, despite it being very easy for the audience to guess it at this point. 5. My Love Story w/ Yamada-kun at Lv999 -The art style is a little wonky and there's an odd age dynamic. But it's good to see a romance title that is from the female perspective every once in a while. 6. A Galaxy Next Door -Its cute but the plot gets a little out there. Additionally the acting feels a little flat not just from Shiori who it makes sense for, but for Ichirou too. Ichirou's little siblings though are goated, can't hate on that footy pajama swag.

1st Impressions are meant to be a quick judgement on the anime based on the 1st episode. Sometimes this means that I miss out on some good shows that take a few episodes to take off or that have crazy good endings. Although with 30+ titles every season, I unfortuantely can't watch them all.
