The difficulty in getting good service for a reasonable price isn't because it's a BMW; it's because you live in Montgomery, AL. All these smaller municipalities have badly-trained and poorly-paid mechanics working under non-compete clauses ie there's no possibility of changing bike shops like the way one can do so in Atlanta. The service you get in Montgomery, Columbus, or Birmingham is so much worse and so much more expensive than what you get in Atlanta or St Louis (or other megapolis). I consider buying a new bike from a dealership (mostly Japanese) from Montgomery as effectively having no warranty. Now all dealerships are essentially banks that happen to sell motorcycles, but Montgomery's dealerships are more akin to...loan sharks. I've lived in all these places, plus many smaller towns and bigger cities, and all the smaller towns have crummy service at expensive prices. There's a good reason that to buy a vehicle/good/service at a reasonable price you're almost required to go to a major city. There's so many ways of buying a BMW for fairly cheap and keeping the cost of ownership low. First of all, and most importantly, BMW is German, and German vehicles stay stock in Germany right down to their tires. While riders can add reasonable things like sliders, case covers, and such, they aren't legally allowed to change components; thus your stock tires stay stock. BMW's warranty is generous; 3 years, but that also means you don't touch the bike because an aftermarket pipe invalidates the warranty (and BMW can prove aftermarket pipes breaks their engines by leaning out the fuel mixture). So don't do that. Keep your bike stock for at least three years. Then there's the various levels of the S1000. You can buy the S1000R, and the insurance and maintenance is quite cheap (but it's not a super bike!). Or the base model S1000RR. Still fairly cheap. But the BMW with adjustable suspension and 200+ hp? You're gonna pay a lot. Don't buy that model, ever.

They way I heard Moto gear manufacturers describe that “middle” strap is it’s the strap that secures the glove to your hand, so my philosophy is opposite yours lol the bigger Velcro strap at the bottom of my glove doesn’t get touched at all & I tighten the glove around my wrist with that skinnier middle strap. I think of it like the only strap on short cuff gloves, if that makes sense
