Do you have any advice on how to make the upward collar from scratch since so many patterns have a flat lapel instead? Should I look at wool coat patterns? the only thing i would say about the original dress that made yours infinitely better is the corset details. in the original, Lily commented on the corset being hard to breathe in and that it was tight when they were done filming the dance scenes, and since yours is made the way a corset should actually feel like (comfortable, easy to move in, flexible) i think that all dresses like these in movies should be a wonder to wear on all fronts. the seamstresses working on the original and yourself on this one all deserve a trophy for being the true fairy godmother tho. absolutely phenomenal.

Disney’s little mermaid can out in the 80s which had a heavy influence in the costumes. (Big sleeves). Every thing else closely mirrors paste Disney outfit design up to that point for princess movies. This is just an educated guess. If there is really historic influence let me know.

did you also have to put on corsets and padding for the dress? Or was it really just put on without all the extra as it seems like these would be great to use for non-corset wearers it has a bit of the silhouette yet without having to wear the extras.

I prefer this video to the recreation OR the film! Lol I love watching you dance in one long shot. You get a better idea of how the dress moves throughout the dance. And it helps to understand why her dress moves the way did in the film. They likely started the take from a few steps back so as to get the right spin and twirl for the director. Love this version. I see the reference to the Vintage Barbie. But when I first saw the dress on the cover photo, I saw Dance 'n Twirl Barbie from abt. 1997. Right down to the tulle sash across the shoulder. It's a beautiful gown!
