I hope Firefox and Mozilla will be around for a long long time. Users can be some mean and angry sobs if you take away things (features) for no apparent reason, like the status bar. what was the reasoning behind that. Power users.... Thank you everyone at Mozilla!

Here we are in 2021- not sure why, but I keep coming back to my trusty Thinkpad x220. It will run nearly every distro that I can throw at it (currently using LM xfce). Occasionally open it up to clean it, and it’s only issue was a failed CMOS battery. That was a $5 replacement part and still running strong.

Intel Atoms... This just goes to show how fast hardware ages. Atoms are hardly around anymore. Now we have AMD Ryzen chips and even the cheaper ones wipe Intel off the table. The choice is obvious and Linux and AMD like each other very much.

The data adding to the SD card happens on Mac.. it has the pesky habit of writing these fork files. On a Windows or Linux system, you should be fine.

I've done a bit of research on them. The best thing to do would be to buy Linux pre-installed, System76, Starlab, Purism, a Dell Developer edition etc... but if you don't want to do that because they're too expensive, then you can buy from a mainstream maker and install Linux yourself. If so, get a Dell or a Lenovo. And if you can, avoid nVidia GPUs. Intel is okay- but AMD are the most compatible chips because they're more open with their technology.

You've got everything right except for the Intel/AMD compatibility. AMD compatibility is great but Intel offers the greatest compatibility of them all on Linux

From the changelog it looks like purge command is in the recent 2.5.2 release ("The best Taskwarrior release in years") at github.com/GothenburgBitFactory/taskwarrior/releases/tag/v2.5.2. I haven't actually upgraded yet because I'm out of my comfort zone if not using sudo apt, etc, but intend biting the bullet soon! This is a great tool though, that I'm just starting to use, and great video too - this is what tutorial videos should be like! Thanks!

Poorly explained, especially due to switching back and forth between filesystems, lvm and vdo. No wonder those DBA's went berzerk. All vdo really is, is a block compressor and deduplicator. It presents a virtual block device where all writes are compressed and deduped before writing to a real block device.

For a recent Intel GPU to support UltraHD through HDMI, the motherboard needs an LSPCON chip. This is explained in www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/graphics/HDR_Intel_Graphics_TechWhitePaper.pdf Unfortunately many computers don't have an LSPCON.

try to clean the contacts of the SD card. If problems remain, try reformatting your SD card. If that doesn't work, replacing the SD card might also help.

my laptop is running XFCE from linux mint 19.2 with 4GB RAM and 1TB hard drive. Is gonna be faster if I install Alpine on it instead of Mint?
@Whitehead100100
@Whitehead100100 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. It is very light, but there is always a tradeoff. You are not going to find as much applications for Alpine. Its geared more to server and IoT. But there are a couple of desktops environments you can install. Heavy command line (CLI). Great for power users. Games not so much. You can install retro arch. If you have time, here is the wiki link you can read all about it. The best place to get all your information about Alpine Linux. Have fun. Its great for system administrators, devs, and git and several projects. wiki.alpinelinux.org/wiki/Main_Page
