I suspect Lomo 800 is the 800 film you find in Kodak disposable cameras.

Definitely a grainy film, it was fun to try but I wouldn't recommend it! But who knows maybe if that roll was stored better it could be awesome!

Love the comparisons! I’ve been hesitant to try Lomo bc I’ve only tried their experiment films. This video has proved to be a reason for me to try it.

I totally know what you mean. I didn't shoot lomo 800 for years but it's super solid. A little underrated I'd say! Definitely worth a try!

Gotta get me some lomo800, as much as I love slow films, its feels fun and whimsical (?) to load fast films in my camera. Great comparison, if porty800 is ever 'on sale' then id give it a go. Cinestill will always be that blooming halation night on the town with a tripod type of fun film for me. Great vid, live this style too. 🎉

Thanks Patrick!! I'm glad you liked the video! I know exactly what you mean about Cinestill, whenever I use it it's like a speciality film. Nothing really beats Portra 800 imo, but lomo is great, I'd definitely recommend it! If you like slow films it will be super fun to shoot. that's how I feel whenever I load 3200 ISO I just run around like crazy taking any picture I want cause I'm amazed at how much more light there is to shoot with 😂

Real nice video. Good editing. The first shot of the Las Vegas sign is really good. I like wandering around Las Vegas. What are you using to film the video?

Thanks Tom! I'm glad you enjoyed it :) I was really surprised by how much I liked the Vegas sign shot. I was skeptical when I took it but it's one of my favorites from the roll to be honest! There was plenty to see in Vegas, I'd love to go back and wander around at dusk/night I think it would be awesome. I was just using my iPhone 11 with a wireless mic.

u should definitely do a video showing all the expired film u have in ur freezer, a bit like the one grainydays did. i love those kinds of vids and ive only ever found 2 good ones on youtube. Love the vid so much and thanks for sharing it lols!!

Hey, I just picked up a Nikonos V to take with me on similar trips (backpacking, kayaking, biking, skiing, etc.) I love the idea of a bombproof film camera to take exploring! For this particular roll, I’m wondering if the snow confused the light meter? I find you have to shoot 1-2 stops over exposed to compensate for how much white is in the frame when in the snow. So I’m wondering if all the colour casts weren’t so much an issue with the expired film so much as they were from the light meter being fooled. And then depending on how old the film is the general rule of thumb is to expose an extra stop per decade the film is expired. So you may have had to shoot 3-4 stops over exposed to get these shots to turn out. Regardless I still think they turned out cool, that’s most of the fun of shooting film, experimenting and seeing what works! Keep it up 👌🏻

Yea that's a good point. Snow is always tricky! But still fun to shoot and mess around with. I can't remember if I got any other rolls with that one so I don't think I can go test it with 3-4 stops :( And for the Nikonos it's so good for a kick around camera. I've been loving mine for skiing!

The viewfinder on the R3M only goes to 40mm ?? You don't have any lenses wider than 40? (or I guess just use a hot shoe viewfinder?)

yea, it's the widest lens I have for that camera. But I have some SLRs for wide angles.

Thank you so much!!! I remember taking that photo and I almost passed it up, I was standing in the middle of the road for 5ish minutes convincing myself it was worth it. The nice thing about expired film though is when it comes down to it you can always say "f it it's expired" and take it no matter what 😆 Long story short I'm glad I did :)

Did you say you shot it 2 stops over (iso 50)? Do you recommend that about most expired films or what’s your thoughts in general?

Yea, the rule of thumb that I follow for expired color film is 1 stop over per decade.. So this one expired in 97 ~26 years old when I filmed the video so I went with 2 stops overexposed I rounded down to two decades because I didn't want to shoot it at 25 ISO haha. If you know that the film was stored well like in a freezer or refrigerator then you wouldn't have to overexpose as much but when I'm unsure, which is most of the time with film from eBay, then I use the 1 stop per decade rule.

Thanks Patrick! It took a while to find and I only got two rolls so I'm not particularly looking forward to next year but it was fun to try :) I used this search on eBay: (expired, exp) film (97, 1997) -(empty,instax,led,card,ink,dvd,disc,advantix,110,620) if you replace it with the year you were born then I'm sure some rolls will come up!

Live and learn. Evil zone focusing lol. Sucks only the one photo photo came out but the grain at 6400 looks nice. I have a few rolls left I may have to try one or 2 at 6400 for giggles. As always love the content! Keep em comin! 🎉❤

All I hear about slide film is how unforgiving it is if it doesn't get the perfect exposure. I say BS. I just shot a roll of Velvia 50 that expired in 1993. I shot it in a 6x17 curved plane pinhole camera. Because of the age, I shot at ISO 25. Being a pinhole, exposure was not precise. The photos came out great.

Wow!!! that's pretty awesome to get good results from a pinhole camera!!! I also always here how unforgiving slides are so I thought that would translate into making expired slide film extra difficult, however, these results were a lot better than I anticipated so I'm planning on shooting a lot more expired slides in the future :) It is really cool to see the positive image right on the film!

Its def an odd film stock for sure, reds and greens seem to pop but it is grainy. i feel like if you want that gritty feel it fits perfectly for that but def not a stock for everyday shooting imo

totally agree with you, it was almost like shooting a "fresh" roll of expired film haha. I def wouldn't trust it to replace Kodak and fuji films but I'm stoked that another color film exists 🤙

Nice hat. I was under the impression that you flew through rolls of film, but hearing you talk about taking 15 minutes to find the right frame and being uncertain is cool to hear. sometimes the shot doesn’t want to be taken

Thanks!! And yeah I'm usually pretty stingy with my shots, normally a roll will be in my camera for around a month before I finish it. If I'm traveling or backpacking in this case I'll go through a roll in 1-2 days but I'll still spend a few seconds in just looking through the viewfinder before committing to the shot, cause yea some shots just don't want to be taken! And with the film prices I'm not gonna argue with that 😂

Hahahahah believe me I was tempted to take the om-1 out but the real hold up was that I didn't want to stop in the rain lol, I just didn't want to confess that because being protective of gear sounds better than a lack of motivation to pull out my camera! but that's where the Coolpix comes through! I'm glad you liked seeing them, I'll start including more of them in my other vids!
