A badger brush is what he's using to soften the lines. A fan brush could work if you don't have a badger brush.

Скажите, а чем разводите акриловые краски? Просто смотрю и сомневаюсь что акрилом можно так растушовывать, если только с пивом разбавить краску. Поделитесь своим секретом который я не знаю.

I take that this is acrylic and not oil based ? No sealing between layers ?
@SouthCoastStudio
@SouthCoastStudio 6 ай бұрын
Hi Michele, yes it is all created using acrylic paint and glazes. Always ensure that the surface is thoroughly dry and sanded smooth between layers. it is not necessary to apply a sealer, if you want to know exactly how I produce this effect, and the materials used, then you will shortly have the chance to view all my courses and tutorials should you join as a member on KZfaq, best wishes, Simon

Hi, unless I need to use oil based glazes and eggshell paint for particular restoration projects, I always use acrylics. Polyvine, makes very good scumble glaze and varnishes.

Great video and very nice looking piece. Those softening brushes are expensive, but appear to be absolutely important and needed to soften as you go. Since expensive, do you clean it as you go or after the project is complete or do you have more than one and clean one as you go then help the other one dry with perhaps a hair dryer? Or maybe they are so soft and you brush so lightly that they do not pick up the paint and can be cleaned once the project is complete. Just wondering?
@SouthCoastStudio
@SouthCoastStudio 9 ай бұрын
When I'm using water based acrylic paints as here, I keep a clean wet cloth handy and wipe the softening brush after each use. This ensures that the brush stays nice and soft. Badger hair softeners are expensive but worth every penny, I've been using that particular brush for over 20 years.

@@SouthCoastStudio, Thank you so much for this valuable information for this beginner. I found an old piece of scrap 5/8” plywood .I cut out about 7 pieces. Only about 9” x 9”. I routed the edges with my router. Put taping compound on the tops and edges, sanded smooth. Did this many times until nice and smooth. I put 2 coats of primer on them. Then tried your Faux Green Marble method with the brushes I had on hand and while not as nice as yours, I was happy with my end result. Especially being my first try. I have 6 more test pieces to practice on, trying different colors combinations. First one was with turquoise blue, yellow, white and brown. I only added the brown on the final coat. Tried lighter to darker as I went. Turkey feather for veins. Going to get a small detailing brush for adding white to the veins. I struggled with the turkey feather to add white to the veins. Thank you very much for answering my question and each one of your very informative videos. Ultimately, I will do a 15 square foot tabletop. Cheers and keep up the great work.

Thanks. Did you apply a coat of glaze to the board first and let it dry before applying the glaze/colour mix? How does it help - just to have the paint move smoothly?
@SouthCoastStudio
@SouthCoastStudio 9 ай бұрын
You don't usually need to apply a coat of glaze before you begin, but in warm weather conditions, it does help to prevent the next layer from drying too quickly. Hope that helps 👍

Thanks. Did you let it dry or put the next layer on when still wet?@@SouthCoastStudio

In very warm conditions, then I would apply the next layer straight away, but this is not normally necessary. Try it both ways and see what works best for you 👍

How much do you wait between layers?
@SouthCoastStudio
@SouthCoastStudio 9 ай бұрын
I usually wait until the layer is dry enough to sand with a fine sanding pad. This process can be speeded up by using a hairdryer. Good luck with your project 👍
