Why did you recommend not to buy Diablo 2: Resurrected? Personally, I'm boycotting that game, but I was wondering what your reasoning is.

Why are we intelligent instead? I think developing AI is our quest to understand that and reason about ourselves.
@EllaJameson10 сағат бұрын
I have a single course degree in machine learning from Stanford University Online, which while it isn't a credential that will get me hired, it DOES mean I've gone through the process of actually understanding what modern AI is. I spent a lot of time doing extracurricular experiments to get a good intuition and feel for HOW these statistical models we call AI actually behave, and what their limitations are. So while I may not have a PhD, I can confidently say I have more hard technical understanding and insights about AI than 95% of the population. The things you laid out in the first 12 minutes is EXACTLY what I try to tell people who say shit like "just give it more time, and AI will explode" or "I'm afraid but excited for the upcoming AI explosion". There is NO MAGIC, it's JUST A MACHINE WITH A BUNCH OF KNOBS. More data, more time, bigger models, bigger computers, quantum breakthroughs, all of that is just like polishing a turd! Yes, AI in it's current form can do a LOT of very useful things, and we absolutely should be using it to replace annoying, menial tasks like removing backgrounds or fixing lighting in photos. But I'll scream it into the clouds if I have to, NEURAL NETWORK BASED SYSTEMS WILL NOT BECOME ANYTHING REMOTELY CLOSE TO GENERAL PURPOSE. THEY WILL NOT BECOME SENTIENT. I really, really wish it were possible, I would also like to see some crazy AI future, even if that concept is scary! But if you understand HOW these systems work, then you can see how it's literally not possible for them to do these things. It's like saying with the right fuel, your car could drive over the Atlantic. Understanding how nodes work, how layers work, and how gradient descent works is fundamental to realizing this is true. While modern systems have lots of advanced features like nodes that remember things over time and complex systems made of dozens of smaller task-specific models, those things don't change the fundamental limitations of dataset availability, data quality, and the fact that the system is at it's core trying to make a number smaller. (Any time you tell someone to optimize a handful of numerical metrics, they will find "cheats" to technically fit your requirements, and AI does this too.) This video restored my faith in humanity a little. I'm sharing that segment around. You earned a like, a subscriber, and a binge watcher.

I loved this video - I avoided watching it until now because I thought it was just going to be clickbait with the typical alarmist talking points - but no, this video aptly summarizes the current stage we're in as a species, how we got here, and what to do next. It doesn't waste your time with BS. It's really heavy and tough to get through, but I really think it's an extremely important video that everyone should watch.

Nice to see someone not saying "diablo 1 was only good because it inspired diablo 2 and there is nothing that wasn't improved" I enjoyed my diablo 2 remaster playthrough last year, but boy howdy did I prefer my subsequent diablo 1 replay afterwards... even with flaws. The tone, progression, restrictions and even roguelike presentations of tomes and staves made the whole experience feel... fresh. And also, the quests and lore books, there were more than I remembered.

wow. The assessment of what AI can generate is pretty out of date, but it's gone in the direction predicted in this video, and pretty much every other point made in the video, especially about OpenAI and Microsoft, remains entirely true. You could make a follow-up/update video, but tbh it would be pretty short.

Crazy how so many people fail to realize that this is it. AI is going to be sentient soon, not because I know anything about AI but because of the natural order of things. We're currently at the point on the technology evolution curve where it shoots straight up. Everything is rapidly evolving and changing everyday. This is not normal. Humans were never meant to live like this in any capacity. AI and technology will only evolve faster and faster until something gives and everything comes crashing down. We will never get to travel amongst the stars. This is it. This is the future.

The idea you can write even (especially!) ambient game dialogue with AI is such an out-of-touch take. We've come along from the days of "GOOD DAY, I HEAR THE FOLK WEST ARE SUMMONING DEVILS" but that stuff exists for a clear reason. It signposts quests, gives background exposition, establishes narrative tone and theme, and points the player in the right direction. *Good* ambient dialogue is a subtle art. It's hard! And it boggles the mind these executives are allowed to run companies where they don't even understand that much about the product. Lacking the most basic media literacy. No wonder they fall for AI's promises.

"Any business that has to write a slavery policy is probably up to something." On the one hand, the vile reality is that every pro-worker law exists because a company tried it once (looking at you, workplace H&S regs). But on the other hand, that's going to haunt me moving forward.

That "exploiting people at their lowest" point is so true, I've rarely been in a happy state of mind when I've spent money on game cosmetics. The most monetarily successful live service games make you feel empty inside while simultaneously making you not want to stop playing, aka League of Legends.

2:07:43 I am going to violently disagree with this statement. People in game development are being laid off for two reasons; AI, and a reduction in demand for games now that the pandemic is over. It’s the industry trying to extract more work from its workforce for less pay, combined with the end of a temporary spike in demand for video games they knew was coming. Games are cheaper and easier than ever to make, as well as more in demand at all levels of polish/effort- the indie market proves that. Don’t let the AAA industry fool you into thinking they have to go to live service models- they’d simply prefer to because they make money on them hand over fist. If modders can update Skyrim modern graphics, for free, on their off time, AAA studios can produce games without relying on gambling to fund them. Lining your corporate executives pockets is not a necessary cost of game development.

Local braindead companies try to make the chisel into the artisan. Ai is a tool, it can be used to add to things or imrpove the creative process, for example, everyone loves minecraft, but the worlds of minecraft are procedurally generated, but the ai is not the creator, it is just there to help improve the game, I used to make these silly backrooms levels on a fandom and I would on occasion use ai images for them, but the images were never the page, they were just there to help add to the page, all of the writing was done by me. What I am trying to say is the paintbrush is worthless without the artist, and no, writing prompts does not count, you are just telling a plagarist what you want and then calling it a day, there is no creativity there.
