Tried this. Total mess unfortunately. Im using black oil paint on a teal tank. The oil and white spirit mix goes into the grooves ok, but when i try to clean it up with a brush it comes out again. Its left smudgy stained grey black bits on my teal paint

@@GRGMiniatures Thanks! I've only painted one Poxwalker, still very noob. So I'm not really sure what I want yet. Just browsing guides for things that look good. Hopefully I can combine all the different elements from people who inspire me into something coherent. The only Scale75 in stock in my country is like £19 per bottle for some reason. Any idea what else could give a similar effect? Edit: Ordered from another country.

What's your experience been with priming using the molotow paints via airbrush? I tried them once after hearing good things, but didn't have great results, and they seemed to not stay on the mini too well. Probably user error, as it was my first time with an airbrush and it was just an airbrush that came free with the compressor, but yeah, curious to hear the thoughts of someone with a bit more experience!
@GRGMiniatures
@GRGMiniatures Ай бұрын
I've always had really great experience with them. The only time I've found they didn't stick was if there was dirt or grease on the model. Normally just wiping with some kitchen paper sorts that, or in extreme cases a bit of isopropyl alcohol (another great product to have on hand, by the way) Another common issue with airbrush priming from beginners is being too far from the model when you spray. Of course you don't want to be flooding the mini with too much paint, but you do want to be close enough that the paint it going on wet. If you're too far away the tiny particles can partially dry in the air before they hit the mini, which obviously inhibits adhesion! Let me know how it goes! :)

Thanks so much for the advice! I tend to be pretty cautious, so high probability I was spraying too little from too far away!

Great list, very comprehensive. I know it would likely get covered when you get around to a paintbrush dive deeper video, but I struggled to get hold of a WNs7 size 0,1 or 2 for quite a while a few years back. While WN are very nice brushes, I would advocate the Rosemary & Co s33. Half the price of WN and in my opinion just as good. They also do sable/synthetic blends which so far have been great workhorse brushes for me.

Really solid list. You could go on forever adding items to it, like a water pot and cloth for cleaning brushes between paints, an empty jar for all your sprue offcuts (to save for making goo!) a mask when priming, etc etc but for just getting a new painter off to a good start this nails it all.

It is IRRESPONSIBLE to practically demand your viewers get a wet palette! In extremely humid environments, they actually are WORSE for painting with. When extremely humid, the paint will rapidly wash out, and two brush fulls five minutes apart will be VERY different in opacity and behaviour. In very humid environments, a cold porcelain tile is absolutely better than a wet palette.

Relax, holy shit, it's not irresponsible of him. How is he supposed to know that? Literally every minipainter on KZfaq recommends a wet pallette, not a whole lot of them live in tropical regions / super humid ones

Great video and great opinions. I don't share your point about GW paints. There are more expansive then others, true. But the whole Pot-Gate-Nonsense is overblown from my point of view. It isn't that hard to simply keep your Lid clean. The range in general is super consistent for me and had a superb choice of colors. Vallejo, AK or (the new) Army Painters are perfect choice as well. The old Game Color Starter Set was the perfect mix of colors I think. The only thing this set was missing was a nice magenta and a Black and Brown wash. This set could carry you very very far.
@GRGMiniatures
@GRGMiniatures 2 ай бұрын
Yeah, I don't want to come down too harshly on the GW paints, but my point is simply that other paints are at least as good, without either of the drawbacks at all, so it's not a 'these are terrible don't buy them', more of a 'what's the point of buying them, if other options are available?'. At any rate, if that's what someone has, or that's all they can get, they're perfectly fine, of course!

Some additions/thoughts: * A sharps container for spent blades-I'm using an old pill bottle. * Super glue debonder if getting super glue-stuck fingers are no fun ever. Debonder is more important than activator imo. * Band aids, because even the most cautious (definitely, definitely me) of us slip-and *on top of the hobby desk*, not buried in the bathroom or the kitchen junk drawer or the back of the hobby desk where you need to go rummaging while trying not to bleed everywhere. * I would say getting *nice* nippers specifically is so much better than getting bad/cheap ones that feel like they crush more than they cut that it's best to just buy a good one at the start. I'm not sure how expensive the one you mentioned is but Tamiya wasn't *too* painful. I almost regret buying the cheap ones I got at the hardware store, except that I can still use them to do things roughly, like cutting wire or chopping up sprue, which has saved them from getting tossed. * I'm gonna make everyone mad and say you don't need to clean mold lines when starting.

This was an excellent video. Especially the part about the history. Would you then say that picking R, G, B + C, Y, M + Black and White as the 8 basis to mix colors a solid way? I'm picking rgb+cym, because I watched a video that stated that some colors could end up dull when mixed just with 3 colors. Especially green is a color that the eye perceives better than the other colors, it shouldn't be mixed. I'm just surprised why paint companies don't release a color wheel with ratios for their colors (or maybe it's a financial thing). Your video makes me think about getting some really high pigmented brand and mixing the color 8 colors in between and see where I land on the color wheel. Maybe by putting strokes on a piece of paper and scanning it back to see where they land on the wheel.

Thank you! You should always ask yourself what you're trying to achieve. Being able to freely mix colours and get the results you expect is skill every painter should try and develop, and using any kind of limited palette will grow your skill. CMY (plus RGB) should give you the biggest gamut to work with, and pure pigment paints will get you the most consistent results. That said, ultimately the goal is a well painted mini, and for that, often just using the premixed colour of your choice (at least for the base layers) is efficient and consistent! At any rate, good, single pigment paints of (roughly) cyan, magenta, yellow, red, green, and blue are an excellent thing to have in your collection, and really fun to play with while exploring colour theory and mixing!
