So lovely to be reminded about play and surprise!! I also loved “tasting the silence” in the room as we worked… it was such a privilege to have you as our tutor at Wanganui Girls Aotearoa Textiles. Thank you again!

Thank you!! My husband will repeatedly ask me over the last 2years: “you have so many art pieces, why don’t you sell them?” I flounder with an answer. Now (thanks to you two) I can say I’m not ready. That resonated with me! In fact, I look at some items I’ve had for many years and I look at them with fresh eyes, knowing I have changed, the piece now needs to evolve with me…for ME to feel satisfied before I “show it” even on IG. Ang, as usual, you do a great and sensitive interview! Best wishes to you, the team and MD you interviewed here. 😘❤️😘

Questions & Answers: Every artist must own ...? ... "a space where they can work" Every artist must believe ...? ... "that you have the right to do this (your) work" Every artist must create ...? ... "the time to do it (their work)" Every artist must avoid ...? ... "showing when you are not ready. (respect your process!)" Every artist must accept ...? ... "mistakes, failure ... it's not a big deal, it's not final. Failure is not final. I learned most from my failing. And it's not easy. It's easy to say. I know it's not easy. It shakes you up but it gives you freedom in the end and that's what you want as the creator."

As always this was an inspiring, gorgeous presentation. I'm so touched and inspired by both of you, Donna and Angela, you feel like kindred spirits, thank you so much for this and for the beautiful course you're offering. The video and talk about the Kurotani Washi studio brought me to tears. When I finished my BFA long ago in 1978 I read in an art magazine about an opportunity to go to Kyoto and do an apprenticeship with one of the eldest master papermakers near there. I believe it was at Kurotani Washi. I was already in love with handmade paper and making it myself with all the things I could find like cattail leaves, and kozo which I of course had to order. I couldn't raise the funds to make the trip and do follow this dream before I married, became a mom etc... but now feel like your course has given me hope to return to that dream, if only in a different format through the course but maybe even return to the dream of visiting there still. Thank you so much!!!
