Spend that much money on a sailboat the floors better be on a gimbal because why spend all that money and still sail heeled over.
@NAVISmagazine
@NAVISmagazine 6 ай бұрын
Hahaha, you are correct. You know that I met a couple that owns a supermaxi, and as they loved racing and they were older, they hired a designer to create their seats on a gimbal so they could still compete without suffering the race's physical stress.

@@NAVISmagazine It is, because if you are saying 30 kt and showing something which is most likely 20 kn you have mislead me. Why you are not saying fresh breeze? Than you are out of the discussion of the correct wind speed. I sailed so far more than 60'000 nm including one circumnavigation. I know a little bit what I'm talking about.
@NAVISmagazine
@NAVISmagazine 6 ай бұрын
@@HansSchulzBalzers@HansSchulzBalzers OK, let's change it to strong wind; this might be a little more accurate. What happens with these types of super sailing yachts is that their size makes everything look smaller and softer. The waves that day were huge, I was on a big Riva, and if I didn't have the camera stabilizer, it would be impossible to shoot this scene. And believe me, the wind was strong. The yacht might be sailing in this scene at over 16 knots, but you can't even feel it in the shot; this is 88 meters, one full street block sailing at full sail downwind.

Check for superyacht Black Pearl. The rig is fantastic, this is one of the yachts with most sailing time in comparison with traditional rights which are complex and difficult to manage. Usually, this yacht sails five minutes after leaving the dock, something impossible with a super sailing yacht standard rig. There is one specific reason why not many yachts use this rig: its price.

hard to say without being there, but that does not look like 30 kts. of wind
@NAVISmagazine
@NAVISmagazine 6 ай бұрын
I was there; we were a few miles out of Sardinia and quite windy. I was shooting from a large RIVA but didn't have a way to measure the wind correctly. Now, the yacht is 88 meters long, and this wind was just a breeze for her.
@mattlechner8442
@mattlechner8442 6 ай бұрын
I believe you that it was windy. Usually once you get to 17-18 kts. wind, you start to see noticeable whitecaps on the water. At 25 kts. in most cases there are plenty of whitecaps. 30 kts. isn't a gale or anything, but it's a pretty significant breeze and you would really see plenty of whitecaps. That said, it's definitely a nice tape.'

Hahaha, you can't believe how the helm station of this yacht is. Imagine that the masts are all carbon fiber built by Magma Structures in the UK. In between the carbon, you have fiberoptic receptors every two or three meters, which report the pressure happening in each of the three masts to the helm station; the captain knows in real time what is happening in each area of each mast in real time. Then, the captain can select one or more masts and, with a futuristic small wheel, can turn the mast through a masterpiece of engineering created by Fabio Perini located at the foot of the mast. It is an unbelievable yacht to sail.

Keeling the mast and headsails deeper than the boom is essential to survival of the sailboat but is also more upright and faster than conventional design. The academic keeling design from stem to stern keeling line relative to sail area is faster. Resistance ahead of sail area is faster and academic keeling.
@markcampbell7577

Practice and experience academic keeling. You should sail 45 knots of boat speed as a normal standard in 30 knots of wind. Geometry plus 15 degrees.
