At long last, my question is answered. I couldn't work out how the accommodation of thermal expansion (and contraction) was being achieved with continuous welded rail when all my education taught me about the necessity of having thermal expansion joints. Thank you. This is a mystery no longer

As soon as you said how do they sync the frequency to the grid I was like PLL. Exactly the same thing we use to sync in RF electronics, though on a much higher power level. We're normally really small signals dBm.

My father was an electrical lineman here in Japan. I asked him why they change out wires sometimes he told me " Well after the lines run out of free electrons they become inefficient and the cost goes up" I had no idea he was joking so I told my science teacher that, you can imagine the laugh she got.

Number 1 worst enemy for roads in my country is water. The route i usually take every month to the barber is smooth all the way , yesterday on the 6th , the roads are tore up to varying degrees! Not gonna end soon because we are getting heavy rainfall leading to flooding. 6 months or so ago , i am certain the biggest pothole ever was in my country. It was more of a ditch than a pothole!

Why would you reference earth as a Globe if water is SELF LEVELING & doest go up a hill. The Earth is measured as a Flat Plain. The Panama Canal is 120 miles long with BOTH bodies of water either end perfectly LEVEL WITH each other.

To be honest, it's just like going through any other tunnel. This video is a lot more interesting than the journey. But the overall experience is quite smooth, both on the Eurostar and the drive on. In fact the Eurostar is about as quick as flying even London to Amsterdam, not just Paris or Brussels, if you're going city centre to city centre. It's usually more expensive, though.

why not try combining nuclear power plants with desal plants? seems efficient enough to me
@andrewdubose996821 сағат бұрын
If we can put a nuclear reactor on a ship or submarine, why not an offshore platform? We already have a modern reactor design in the A1B used in _Ford_ class carriers. Alternatively, what about “simple” power generation ship (i.e. a portable nuclear reactor) that can go between islands to “pinch hit?” We have 65 years of experience building and running floating nuclear reactors with an impeccable safety record. At 700mw, the A1B is comparable to the biggest plants in Hawaii, with no CO2 emissions to boot.

Your late characterization of how they should not have trusted the emergency spillway is, I think, given purely out of hindsight. If they have an emergency spillway that cannot be used even in an emergency storm that is also suffering an emergency failure of the primary spillway, then, frankly, they do not have an emergency spillway. They needed to trust to see whether it could perform its role. The fact that it failed so catastrophically was still valuable data. You say they "eventually needed to open up the primary one anyway" but this is spoken purely in hindsight - they had no way of knowing that they would need to, nor did they have any way of knowing that it would not have caused more devastating problems. This is too results-oriented of a judgment call.

They are starting to also point rails white. This rejects heat and reduces the amount of bucking. I think this is currently mostly done in Italy and Austria, but there are trials in other places.

By the way, the reason why they're called 'inverters'. Back in the old days of mercury arc rectifiers, there was only one type of conversion you could do to electrical power: AC to DC. Any unit that did AC to DC was called a 'converter'. Eventually, technology moved on and it became possible to go from DC to AC, the opposite process of what a 'converter' did. Hence, it was called an 'inverter'. Since then, the term 'rectifier' has become common for AC to DC ('PFC' appears occasionally, don't get me started), but 'inverter' for DC to AC has stuck.

Uncommon in the US and Canada, but common in europe and other countries with commuter train networks and/or metro systems: EMU electric multiple units where the motors are distributed across many of the passenger cars. DMU diesel multiple units are similar, with diesel motors distributed among the passenger cars.

You should look into drag racing cars that use that slip curve to their advantage as well. Especially in the lower speeds as they launch. It’s fascinating engineering used there as well.
