@sunny60023 Prices are up 35-40% the last few years in some areas. Housing in Columbus is not as cheap as some people think. I lived in NYC for about 6 years

@neptune7133 The weather in Columbus isn't great in the Winter but we don't often have snow emergencies. The worst I can remember from the past several years is maybe losing power of a day or two. Keeping some cash on hand and a couple days worth of food would be a start.

Was in Columbus Sunday. Went to the Rodizio Grill across from the Nationwide Arena at 7:30 for dinner. It was like a ghost town. Is this normal? It was almost like a Walking Dead episode. And I was a little confused by the scooters.

Not really surprised. If there isn't a game going on the Arena District can be a little slow. Much more activity about 1/2 mile North in the Short North. The scooters have been a thing for the last 5 years or so.

I live in Cleveland. It's a huge ghetto, as are most large Ohio cities and MOST of the suburbs near these large cities. HELLO crime. You get out into the sticks a bit, and it's like living in the poorest part of Appalachia. Nothing really of merit anywhere in this state.

@nielsonlars Worthington, Dublin, Hilliard and Westerville will all have a few but not as many as the urban neighborhoods. ADU will be restrictive in all.

If buyers aren't accustomed to high property tax, they should avoid the suburbs of Columbus, especially Worthington who has constant never ending school levies/bond issues.

The taxes (and HOA fees in certain areas like Bridge Park) are painful. That is by far the biggest downside to me. This is not NYC or LA so the taxes are hard to swallow to live in a suburb of central OH.

Property tax in the suburbs is horrendous and will be worse in January. It's hideous. Where else is property tax over $12,000 a year for a 2 bdrm 1 bath house? People in the Columbus suburb areas seem to think that all of the US has such ridiculously high property tax. For older home owner who've been paying property tax for over 30 or more years, there is no respect from the state. The homestead exemption is only 25,000. Doesn't help a lot on a 2 bdrm 1 bth that the county appraised for 350,500, We're looking to get out of here b/c of the ridiculously high property tax.

Went to the reappraisal review w/tyler technologies. The place we went to had a police officer at the door. Wow, that was a nice greeting lol. Got zero respect from the lady who we were assigned to. She wasn't interested. And I'd worked extremely hard to make my case. It took me a long time getting everything together. Along with all my other information, I brought pictures that were scanned when we first got there. She said they weren't available for her to look at. Where did those pictures go then? She was so exasperated by it all, I almost apologized for bothering her, but I stopped myself from doing it. She probably had some really angry people to deal with and I understand. But that was no reason to be so short with us. We were not angry, just trying to make our case. (btw, there were some very frustrated people talking loud in the parking lot) Anyway, a miserable long story short, they've now put the final house values up on the auditor's site. They only lowered our house by around 20,000, a drop in the bucket. Suburbs got hit bigtime. Columbus got off easy. Most Columbus houses I've looked at were only raised by around 50,000, and the 7.7 school tax levy they were crying about only raised their tax a very little bit. Columbus plays a huge part in this b/c of tax abatements for the big business in Franklin county. Columbus gets the benefit, and the suburbs have to pay for it with inside millage.
