I'm glad you mention that you've been looking at games just to platinum. And you changed your mind set against that because if you look for the next platinum, then you're not having fun with the next game you play. That's why you just got to play games you find interesting and fun. Platinum it for the fun of it. Have fun with it. Also you mention at 11:00 I also believe its just Sony wanting for players to just login everyday for every month. They only care for how many players are logging in to PSN.

yeah 100% it becomes unfulfilling pretty quick when it's only about the platinum. My experience has been different from most because it's been more about 'to make a video about the platinum, i have to get the platinum'. so it's the video I have been chasing rather than the platinum trophy itself

Yea I started feeling this way recently as well. I currently work an office job 10 hours a day and it gets pretty repetitive and monotonous. The last thing I want to do with my limited time after work is another monotonous task like gathering collectibles. Of course theres still some great platinums out there but I'm not replaying games for the sake of new endings. Thats too much, great video tho!

As I get older I just find myself with a lot less time to play games, and so it becomes a matter of do I want to spend that limited time grinding out things like collectables and the like or do I spend that time playing something with my friends, or enjoying another game I haven't played yet. The answer became very obvious very quick lol. Don't get me wrong, I still love trophies and trophy hunting. If I'm not enjoying a game now though I'm happy to drop it, and if I beat a game and think I got my fill I won't go the extra mile. I have to absolutely adore a game now to put that extra time in! I think I'm just in a much better place now. Another comment mentioned escapism and trophy hunting giving control and I absolutely understand that as someone who was there. Trophy hunting gave me the sense of achievement I needed at the time, the sense of doing something. Now though I get that from everything I do from work, the gym, friends and so on. Gaming has finally become just a hobby of mine, and I'm all the better for it! Great video btw, really enjoyed listening to it!!
@gearhead4172 күн бұрын
Ive come to understand sometimes its better to just not bother with a platinum because by the end the positive experience you have from beating a game is diminished when you get the platinum. Im currently making my way through Hogwarts Legacy and after seeing all the stuff I would need to do to plat the game I kind just dont want to bother. Its not that some plats are hard its that they arent fun sometimes. Like I remember getting the plat for Spiderman PS4 and loving ever second of it. But sometimes the plat just isnt worth it if your feelings by the end are going to be negative.

Personally, I started this journey of being a trophy hunter about a year and a half ago, so I only have ~20 platinum trophies in my main account. The other day I have this sort-of-epiphany where I really wanted to play "Shadow of the Colossus (2018)" because the good reviews and accolades this game has, but then I saw thiat you need to do 6 playthroughs in order to get the platinum, so, since 2022, I decided that I won't start a game if the trophies looks too hard or if I need to replay the game a bunch of times. And the same sentiment happens with a lot of games that I have sitting on my shelf because of that: "Prey (2017)," you need to play in a certain way in your first playthrough (no killing enemies, don't use some guns or doesn't even dare to press/activate the action button/power because a trophy is tied to it.) Your second playthrough the opposite, your third a mix of both... The same goes with "Dishonored", "Bioshock"... This got me thinking if it's really worthy that I need to "limit", so to speak, the enjoyment of my first experience with some games just to save hours of my time playing not at my OWN way and pace but the "INTENDED way." I mean, imagine not pressing the square button until you finish a game because the trophie description says "Don't use [X/Y/Z] ability]" which is bind to that button! That first playthough I will not know that mechanic, that power, that first feeling of "what would it be like if...?". There are times when I really get frustrated by this fact.

Trophy hunting has definitely become dull over the last 14 years. I try to make up new rules for myself to keep it somewhat fresh. Like getting at least 1 platinum a month or getting a 100% non platinum in-between every 10 plats, getting one on my 1st plat anniversary or other special days to make it more memorable. I've also started putting certain games next to each other just because they look nice. It adds more limitations but also adds a little fun and I think it's artistic. Definitely want to slow down in the next few years though and focus on other things. It's addictive for sure.

Maybe a couple more basic and challenging achievements could have been added, but good stuff mate!! 🧡

War in the North was such a fun game but goddamn the bugs... the buuuuuuugs! I had 1 achievement in the game I simply couldn't unlock, its the one where you all execute an enemy together, both my buddies got it first time and I never did and there were multiple times where it happens accidentally and it wouldn't unlock and then we tried to brute force it and it still wouldn't work and I just decided to move on to another game instead of trying to get an achievement. Another game that was buggy af but super fun was Mercenaries 2, in which I also missed 1 achievement due to a glitch which IIRC was "Finish a race" I finished them all multiple times over but nada. No dev really cares to fix achievements though especially in underperforming games :(

One of my favourite "hated" games is the last of us 2. I wouldn't say it's universally hated like kill the justice league, but it's extremely controversial. It's in my top 3 of all time. Albeit it might get kicked off the top 3 by Horizon forbidden west, not 100% sure just yet, but forbidden west is definitely up there for me. Mass effect 3 is my most loved game of all time (especially as it was my introduction to the series, played it in 2016).

For me I'd have to say Earth Defense Force 4.1/2025. I haven't earn the platinum yet but I'm still grinding the game, about 200 hours in. The game has probably the longest and grindiest platinum. Agreed with Diablo 3. I completed it recently. It got abit tedious doing all the bounties but its a really good game to chill out on. Mine would be Aliens: Fireteam Elite. The Insane difficulty was one hell of a challenge and actually took a lot of teamwork and synergy. Grinding the weapons to max level too was a bit annoying at first but by the end when I completed all the Achievements, I was actually quite gutted there was nothing left to do. Great video brother enjoyed watching a fellow Geordie Achievement/trophy hunter!
