His mother represents all the self help books and self affirming emptiness, which as well meaning as they are, are only surface deep if that even, and don’t even attempt to answer the problems of the day, which only grow at our inattention and our swerve around them. Someone once said Anakin/Vader is the most tragic character in Star Wars. I raise you Maul: -Abducted as a child and trained to hate Jedi, with the purpose of destroying them -Almost wins galaxy-defining duel, instead cut in half -Spends a decade gone mad and living in a garbage dump -Former master rejects him and kills his brother -Wins the right to rule a people by their own laws, but is rejected -Becomes a business owner. Something tragic happens to lose that and find himself stranded on a deserted planet. -Decides to pass on his knowledge to an apprentice, but is abandoned -Tracks down his old rival, but is killed by him
