Back when EA used to make great sports games. NHL 96 is still my favorite hockey game.

You could also get Madden 97 for PS1, and it would have been much more impressive at the time, but I just find this smoother and nicer. Maybe for Madden 98 the choice is clearer because the PS1 version had improved further and clearly got a lot of love while the 16-bit versions were basically roster updates with broken menu music. But I don't think 3D is automatically better than 2D, which has its own unique charm.

They literally just reused most of John Elway's Quarterback for the NES except made the graphics clunkier and it's impossible to play.

The music is so cute in this version! The Genesis version is the best IMO, but this gives it a run for its money 💰

This looks really good! I've played so few N64 games, never owned one. I think I prefer this to the Madden 99 footage I've seen.

This is probably the best football game ever made, including the 6th gen console Maddens. The game actually allowed full control and none of the rng, stupid animation nonsense. Football games later on took this element away.

I can't remember if it was 94, 95 or 96 that my brother and I used to play, and we'd set the maximum time, and our goal was to knock out as many of each other's players as possible. It eventually got to the point where the replacement players didn't have names, only numbers. Those were the days. Much simpler times.

It looks like your trying to pass & catch like it’s Madden on PS5 or Xbox X…let the CPU control the WR until the last sec & focus on the correct pace to put on the pass (bullet or lob). They don’t have the catch animation to be able to execute the way you’re trying to

Remembering those EA Sports cartridges on the Genesis were different than the regular Genesis carts. 😮

I am equally bad at passing in both games, and I still haven't decided which game to really hunker down in and learn to play well.

The speech in 93 was neat, it wasn't great, would go silent for a while, then all of a sudden talk too much. The speech in 94 is way more refined, they addressed a ton of issues BUT ends up sounding like somebody with brain damage. Good game though, solid football. 3rd, behind Madden and Tecmo Bowl.

These first three Madden games on the Genesis are such joys. Simulation football, yet with bright and blocky players, and charming and goofy voices ("first down!"). On the one hand, this was the most realistic one yet, but the speed of the game by Madden 93 has really outgrown the passing windows. They block you from seeing the field, and seeing your receiver look "open" is no help, because what you can't see is the linebacker or safety ready to spill your receiver's guts (and by this edition of the game, that defender can move fast enough to "come out of nowhere"). It's a shame it took so long to remove those, otherwise Madden 93 might be my favorite overall.

An excellent football title for the Genesis. Play it on Easy until you get the learning curve down, especially for passing.

As a Lions fan, this was fun to watch. Just like Dan Campbell, going for it on every 4th down LOL. Never thought I would be watching sega genesis game play from the 90's in 2024. I had this one as a kid and came here to just to hear the into theme music. Nostalgic!

I actually liked this game despite a lot of the bad elements. It was pretty fascinating to be able to create high school teams with names and jersey colors. It would have been cool had they allowed a high school season and given them more plays.

Oh I know I’m in the minority.just to me the Genesis version there were only like I swear 3 goalie animations and just pass the puck up the middle and bam 5 hole goal. SNES version had way more goalie animations and more ways to score if you were goalie. The graphics were def better for the Genesis version and sound.
