It's much simpler than that. J31 is an attempted recreation of a Mig31 role. With western technology advancements. It turned out to just be a worse Mig31. Hence why they don't really know what to do with it now, as it's an OK plane with a specific role, and no one really wants an OK plane with a specific role unless it's cheap... really cheap...

People think copying an aircraft is easy, but it's not. Changing even one inch of an aircraft means you have to change and test all the systems again. It's not like math homework where you can just copy and paste. For example, if you change the radar, you need to change all the software. If you change the missile, you need to adjust all the targeting systems. So, you can't completely copy an aircraft. Some say certain planes are copies of the F-35, but that's not true. They might be inspired by the F-35, and some technology might have been stolen by Chinese hackers. If that happened, first, the CIA should be ashamed for not noticing, and second, you should acknowledge that the Chinese are very hard-working. Competing with Western technology isn't as easy as it seems.
@korana6308Сағат бұрын
Except that you are not really required to do that. You can just build a worse plane. Even if your design would be inefficient. As long as it doesn't immediately break or cause instability...

I wouldn't be biased tho, I live in Central Asia, Chinese tech, companies, and investments literally overrun my country's economy in 4 years. Just to give you my perspective: it's very likely that my first car is going to be Chinese (BYD), the house I may bought will be Chinese, Russian company I work for will be working for Chinese contracts, I will be driving on Chinese roads, using Chinese phone, car, communication. They can be lacking some aspects and capabilities, for now, but it's definitely interesting to see what they will achieve in 20-35 years. Have a great day sir.

J31 better be wary of USN CCAs & AI-powered Skyborgs both easily out range & outgun with AIM260JATMs & LREW surpassing range of PL15 & PL21. Besides B21 Ghost Raiders can fly from your six & shoot any toufu fighters from the rear & submarine launched F22B can wipeout any potential landings before any surviving J31 can return. Time to redraw plans for JXX
@kineticdeath8 сағат бұрын
even if china did rip the entire plans and specs for the F-35 theres no reason why they would copy/paste it. They could just use that as a comparison for their own testing. I think it stands to reason they would afterall want to beat their adversary, not just meet them at the same level. Do consider that 20 years ago a chinese car was some 3 wheel bubble with a scooter engine and now they are mass building cars that actually meet requirements for exports - so they are clearly quite good at improvement and iteration when they put their minds to it. They will probably be flying those tictacs that we all seen in the navy ufo clips in 20 years from now

Every country conducts espionage at some level. China do tend to have a (likely justified) reputation for ignoring patents and the like, but I agree with you, I think they want the best they can build, and humans are incredible at innovation. After WW2, a "made in Japan" sticker was synonymous with poor quality, but that changed pretty fast.

Good video with a well-reasoned cautious analysis. As Millenium7* has noted, this stuff is far too complicated for straight 'rip off' copying. The copying and espionage are definitely happening, but those claiming Chinese stuff is all copies are just indulging in Olympic-class cope that promotes head-in-the-sand conclusions. On the 5th gen attributes, I confess I'm more interested in the networking capability of this and the J-20 than their stealth. The stealth is important, but it's hard to tell how valuable it is for the Chinese concept of operations. For example, if (speculating) the J-20 is intended as an AWACs & tanker killer, then moderately effective forward-aspect LO + a really good long range AAM would make a very effective combo. If that were the case, the Chinese may have made the judgement that the effort to further reduce RCS is better spent on more lethal AAMs.

I don't like to speak poorly of others usually if i can but Millenium 7* is just pure hyperbole click bait garbage....(but if you look deeper bs) He claims to know how awesome Russian systems are on the unproduced Su75 and the Su57 for starters. He also seems to know how awesome the French Rafale is yet when it comes to anything American he babbles on about how it's all ordinary and insignificant. Geez he even claimed only the Europeans (specifically the French) were any good at making composite materials for stealth aircraft, that was my last straw. That channel along with it's toy vacuum cleaner Otis can rot in the manure heap that comes out there voice holes. Sure he's entertaining but you sure don't find the biased hyperbole click bait titles and garbage info that seem to be marketed for a teen audience here on this channel.
