About flushing the toilets that depends , if you live in an old apartment complex or an old house you need to put the paper in a básquet just for the reason you explained, old piping system but on the next houses definitely NO and one more thing having small bills or change it’s because there are many fake currency coming from Colombia specially on large bills so Ecuadorians are actually are very careful. Just aside note for KZfaqrs I know that you only point out pros and cons each place you visit but as a person that have traveled a lot actually Europe is not different and United states the same, just go to the Bronx , certain parts of Brooklyn and even upstate New York the living conditions are Horrible, lots of ghettos, rotten apartments and very dangerous. Sorry but I like for all KZfaqrs to be a bit more FAIR , I still think that Ecuador in general it’s a very beautiful place and overall a bit safer than here where you have homeless, war veterans with PTSD with no home, people with mental disorders walking around hurting people for no reason, drugs, and schools shooting, even President Trump almost got killed by a 20 year old kid, I rest my case!

I was in Cuenca in 2022 for three months. Crime is everywhere. Every shop has an armed security guard in front and they told me themselves how dangerous it is for regular Ecuadorians (not tourists). When it comes to no fees on US$ transactions. That’s absolutely not true. I have a bank account in Ecuador and paid an exchange fee because although they use the U.S. $ IT IS A DIFFERENT COUNTRY as the bank told me. Get your info straight before publicizing it.
@edoconnor552821 күн бұрын
WOW! You were here for three whole months two years ago. Maybe you should get YOUR info straight. We have been here since 2012 and haven;t come close to any crime and we are out and about walking day and night.. Every shop does NOT have a security guard. To get money at my bank's ATM costs $.52 and to use my card from the US costs $1,52. Are you sure you were in Cuenca?
@jolenewilson-glah-oi5hi8 күн бұрын
Since guns are illegal in Ecuador, no store (or even cops) are ARMED as you claim. You were also here for a very limited time during three months when the world was still in crisis from the pandemic. Quit being a fear monger. At least we have never had a mass shooting which is now more than 1 a day this year in the US.

Cuenca is the city of four rivers (not three): Tomebamba, Tarqui, Yanuncay, and Machángara. For expats the elevation of 8,500 feet is too much for some. We're fortunate, it is no problem as we love the city's architecture, culture, people, walkability and public transportation. For disabled and over 65, Tranvia costs $0.17 per ride. We still drop into Hotel Victoria for their great $5 house red and escargot!
@seananddebgoАй бұрын
Thanks for the clarification! We didn't have any issues with the elevation, either, but the bus ride up probably helped, as opposed to flying in directly. We loved everything about the Hotel Victoria and the food was so good!

Great video and a very charming couple! I'm from Quito, but live in the US for the last 20 years, Cuenca is a magnificent and a great point to explore Ecuador and Andean Culture in general, perhaps the most important trait of Ecuador is its mega-diversity (people and nature), and how close each ecosystem is from each other. On top of that, you have a multitude of endogenous nationalities living next to each other with their own language and culture. Just look at their attire, some of them have white hats, or white pants, or different poncho colors, which means different nationalities, it will take you some time to process all in... but that's exactly the experience that you are going after - just sign up for everything, as Ecuador is one of the most incredible countries in the world to interact with nature, and if possible visit the Amazon Jungle (it's cheaper than the Galapagos Islands) try to go to Cuyabeno Lake in the Yasuni National Park (in the north), and if you are really into an 'Indian Jones' type of experience take a tour with an experienced indigenous guide to "Cueva de los Tayos" (few hours east of where you are) only visiting the moon can beat that ... there is a National Geographic movie about those caves with Will Smith. I am so looking forward to see all your videos and who knows, even seeing you on a chicken bus sometime - those are fun!
