Hello Mersey Shipping. Nice empty ship, coming into port for her new cargo. Great to see the new Everton FC stadium looking very majestic in the background as she passed. It was also good to see the I-O-M Ferry in her new berth, and from this angle you can see the angle of the new berth. Excellent video. Thank You. Spoolnox

Hello Mersey Ferries. That tug, well I am not quite sure what she was doing. She never pulled the DD around. Did she push her bow to turn the DD? Did the tug also push her into the landing stage? Whatever, it was a job well done. I would have been happy had you carried on recording, seeing her (DD) sliding up to the stage. An excellent video. Thank you. Spoolbox.

It was a bit unusual. When I see the tug go to the stern I presumed it was to attach a line, then it moves up the starboard side. I can only guess she was there to help "nudge" her to the landing stage. Sorry I could t stay I had to go otherwise I would of seen her berth. Cheers 👍

Really interesting to see this, particularly the cranes in the big fabrication shed. In the late 1970s I was a Student Apprentice at Herbert Morris Ltd at Loughborough (Morris Cranes), who made the cranes in there. One spell of the apprenticeship was with the Installation Team, and that was at Cammell Laird working on the 130 Tonne cranes on the high gantry which were already in place when I started there. When I see photos of the shed I can say truthfully that I've bumped my head on the underside of that roof (wearing a hard hat of course). The work I remember helping with was in the electrical control panels which were built inside the crane girders, and fitting safety bars across the windows of the drivers cabs. This was in the 2 cranes in the South Bay. Those in the North Bay had been completed and I think it was HMS Sheffield on which initial work had just started there. There was a lift up to the gantry, which I remember being told was 114ft above floor level, getting out and onto the walkway alongside the gantry was quite an experience. Then from the gantry it was up onto the crane which had substantial handrails along the girders and hooped ladders to get onto the girders and down into the cab. After a couple of weeks you did become a bit acclimatised to working there, but certainly not complacent. I remember once seeing a seagull flying towards me, nothing unusual there, but when it dived and flew beneath me that did disorientate me for a few seconds. It looked a fascinating tour in the classic double decker, thanks for posting.

Hello Mersey Shipping What a lovely video down at the Pier Head Landing Stage of the Viking Neptune. Nice looking ship. Interesting re: her mooring ropes configuration. 2 Springs on the bow and it looked like just 2 ropes pulling back. On the stern one Spring rope and it looked like 6 pulling back. I don't like the stage at the Pier Head. It looks too flimsy to me. It only needs one of the Large Cruise ships come alongside too quick to cause a lot of damage. Brilliant Video. Thank you very much. Spoolbox

Hello Mersey Shipping, An interesting ship. Pacific Basin written on her side. Is she then a long way from home? She looks empty of any cargo. Not a lot of movement in the River, had we just had Low Water? I seem to remember being told (a long time ago) there is about 30 mins lull between when tides start to change which has a special name, the name of which I can't recall? It was good to see the tug pull her stern around. Did the tug at her bow end actually do anything, or was she there just in case? The Challenger passed on her way out to sea. Was she working on the Wind Turbines? Sorry for all the questions. Great video as always. All the best. Spoolbox
@merseyshipping4494
@merseyshipping4494 Ай бұрын
Thanks. Yeah Challenger was on her way to the windfarm. I think your thinking of Ebb tide when it's transitioning between coming in and out. Sometimes you have a tug just standing by, not to sure of the reasoning behind it. 👍

@@merseyshipping4494 Hello again Mersey Shipping, Thank you for your reply. It has just come back to me. The time when one tide finishes and before the next movement of water starts is called "Slack Water". When the Mersey Ferry's used to be more regular, one used to see a Ferry approach the stage, at the peak of the high/low water tide, but the slack water had only been minutes and the tide had started to turn, It was fun then seeing the ferry having to to a 180% turn to enable to moor safely. Nature is amazing.
