im currently on the harimau, if i wanna get something more of an upgrade which has a nicer or better tactile, which would you recommend?
@nickthaskater
@nickthaskater Жыл бұрын
Harimau are pretty great. I have since gone to the Emogogo tactile which have stronger tactility and are heavier, but I don't think they're as "satisfying" to type on. I think a lot of people would probably find the Emogogo tactile to be fatiguing as well (I'm ok but as I said they're quite heavy). I'd recommend luring the Emos as well if you try them. All that said, the Emos have stayed in my board so I'm either a masochist or they're actually quite good.

Lots of similar through-hole kits in the 60% size. Check out the Gingham 60% and Discipline 65% for a couple of frequently available options. That said, the closest you'll get to this that you can buy right now is the Nibble 65% which can be ordered through Amazon for $70. It doesn't have a screen but it does have an encoder and RGB underglow, and it looks great.

Im looking at swapping oem plate with an fr4 or another material. How would you compare the typing feel? Would you say it's a significant change?
@nickthaskater
@nickthaskater 3 жыл бұрын
I can only speak in regard to tactile switches, but basically it feels more responsive and "active" than the original polycarbonate plate. I'm using 67g U4T switches so they require a decent amount of force, and I suspect the extra support offered by FR4 plays into this characteristic and makes for, in my opinion of course, a more engaging and enjoyable typing feel. I suspect linear switches would mitigate some of these differences, although you'd still get a pitch change to the sound if nothing else. Also, consider the FR4 plate I have from Hype.Keyboards does not use the 67 Lite's standoffs and it has a number of flex cuts. Other FR4 plates I've seen for the 67 Lite are fully rigid and are meant to be used with the standoffs, both differences which would likely result in a very different experience from what I describe.
@allencaeg1751
@allencaeg1751 3 жыл бұрын
@@nickthaskater bit the bullet and got the Hype fr4 plate. Thanks for the info! I actually have a similar setup - but will be using it with Nixdork 65g u4ts. The way you describe the character change sounds appealing to me. Just what i wanted more out of the board. I suspect the pc plate dull out the switches a bit. I felt the u4ts to be more "alive" while using it with an aluminum plate on a different board. But the tactility was a bit too jarring. Hopefully fr4 will provide a good balance. Somehow i expect the lack of standoffs to provide a more uniform feel throughout the entire board. Do you have a clue what is the effect of eliminating standoffs?
@nickthaskater
@nickthaskater 3 жыл бұрын
@@allencaeg1751 no standoffs removes the "hot spots" where the board would tend to be more rigid than areas away from the standoffs. As you suspect, it helps with uniformity. It also helps with flex snce there's no physical connection between the plate and PCB.
