Unfortunately, it isn't really possible to shop ethically and cheep. If you want cheep, someone somewhere is losing out. I'm a sewist who occasionally does comission work. And it would likely cost me about $50 in materials to make an ok quality, basic A-line dress. (Fabric can be expensive) And much more if I'm buying nicer fabrics. And my time is also valuable. If I were to sew at below minimum wage and not have to do any of the other sewing work such as ironing, prewashing, or cutting the fabric, it would still cost more than $50 for my time. (I would estimate 4-6 hours of work for the sewing portion) A $100 dress of decent quality made by a sewist is still likely verging strongly on exploitation. Instead of buying many things though, we can try to save up for a couple good things. Hopefully things that will last us years. Things with perhaps some re-sale value. We can learn the skills to make quality garments too. And thrifting/second hand is pretty much the best. Good luck. I wish you the best. And I encourage you to keep exploring the issues ascociated with fast fashion. And also the cost of the things required to sew decent garments. Thanks for posting this video.
