Thanks for the video! I feel I’ve been given a 2nd chance with my 19 y/o daughter as she has moved back home, to help guide her through life as it’s been very difficult for her. On top of that I didn’t do a very good job being dad in the past. Life skills is what she needs along with re-establishing our relationship. Her life skills are severely lacking due to anxiety. I love my little girl so much and want the best for her. Asking for prayer with wisdom and to hear from the Holy Spirit knowing when to listen and when to speak and to know what to speak at the right time. Thank you for this information.

Teaching textbooks gets tons of meh and complaints. I wish I had time to make them a good tutorial video. I have so many tips that are basically in their program that people just don’t think to use. Biggest one is to still use paper and pencil. Especially when viewing a solution, we do the solution on paper along with the animation for that tactile component of memory. I’m mostly convinced that when people praise moving to another curriculum it’s mostly due to the fact that they are now using paper and pencil.

Thank you for this. I'm 42, but I had kids late, so my girls are 10 and 8. I've been trying so hard lately to cherish these times because I see them changing so much already, and I know that things will just get more difficult every year. This world is so hard. Prayers for you and your girls. 🙏🏻🩷🩷

Yes happy to see more videos about this stage of life. I am in my 40s and I feel I am definitely learning a lot about myself and trying to change the things that are not serving me. I have also been more emotional and anxious. Remember you are in the age bracket for perimenopause, so that may have something to do with your increased crying. Thanks for your video. 😊

Vacuum sealing some things for long periods of time (like stuffed animals) can damage them. It can deform them or damage the stuffing inside. Vacuum bags are supposed to be a short term solution, even though many of us use them for much longer. Some materials hold up well to long term storage but certain things that are meant to be fluffy, like sleeping bags and stuffies, should be left so.

My dad told me that parenting never gets easier. Whether your child is 9 or 55 years old, you will still worry and your child will still test you. What changes are your levels of worry, but that the amount of love and understanding you have for your child keeps growing and growing. Which is very needed especially in the world we live in. And that how you see your child and how they see you changes over time. It's not awlays a bad thing though. But also that sometimes your child is just going to drive you crazy. Great video Miss Becky!

I feel like I could write a book in this comments section! First of all, yes please we need videos on your journey of self improvement and not giving up on yourself!!! I have been having so many of those feelings lately, so definitely needing inspiration! Second, my oldest is 13.5 and I am absolutely dreading having her graduate and get a job and move out, be in relationships, etc. The whole thing terrifies me. I have 5 more behind her; so I want to get it as right as I can from the start, instead of just bumbling my way through. I seriously appreciate you doing this video, thank you!!!

I truly appreciate your honesty and vulnerability. Recently, I turned 44 and have 2 boys (15 and 14), and I can tell you that I am feeling all the same things you spoke about. Some days it’s so hard for me to function with how many thoughts I have in my head (along with the crying, also). Our kids are living in such a different world than what we grew up in, so it’s even harder for us as parents to understand at times. The thing I’m learning slowly is that it’s going to take a lot of patience, prayers, and grace for ourselves and our kids. I pray for these things for you, Becky. It’s definitely a new road for us all and you’re not alone.

I deeply appreciate that you made this video Becky. Thank you. There is so much in life that I struggle with and feel behind in, or that I didn't do well in, but when I had my girls I put all my efforts and focus into them, and it hasn't been until recently, in trying to prepare them more for the world and just having to confront issues that are typical for their age, that I am having to revisit my own anxiety and lack of self confidence and not wanting to mess things up for them. It just feels like this intense pressure, and then throw perimenopause into the mix, and all of the other things going on, and it is quite a roller coaster ride. I feel less alone now, and I would love to see more videos like this.

THANK YOU for this video! I needed this. I have a 21 and 18 year old and 2 younger ones right behind them. I’ve homeschooled the older and still homeschooling my younger ones. Raised them in a Christian home but this world is so hard to live in right now. The influences are so bad and these poor young adults are trying to enjoy and live life but it’s hard out there. I pray for them often and hope like you have said my younger children learn from all that we are going through with my older ones. It’s been a learning experience for me to to try to navigate them through this life that has changed so much since I was their age. Again, thank you for this video. I don’t feel so alone. I wish more people talked about this.

My 7th grader is autistic, and we have been trying to use IEW every year since 3rd grade. It is NOT for my daughter. I thought it would be a perfect fit because of her challenges, but after using it for five years, it never clicked in her brain. I even went through the teacher training for that program because I taught IEW in our Classical Conversations community. Most of the kids did really well with it, but it just did not work for my daughter. We have also used Good and Beautiful for language, and in my opinion, while it is a beautiful program, it is not enough to use alone as a language arts curriculum. There isn't enough practice in each of the individual language components. So, I supplement with other things when we use Good and Beautiful - usually one grammar, one spelling, and one reading. We have used Easy Grammar, Fix-It Grammar, Spelling-U-See, All About Spelling. For reading supplement, I use The Book Umbrella novel studies from Teachers Pay Teachers. For writing, I had been using IEW but I have given up trying to make that work for my daughter. I'm just going to accept my defeat and move on. So next year, for 8th grade, we will use Good and Beautiful Level 8 (book studies) as our writing spine, and I will just teach the writing concepts throughout the year for each assignment. 🤷 If anyone out there has special needs kids and there's a writing curriculum that works well for them, let me know! 😅

I've been going back through videos wondering what the HS choice changes are especially what has been best vs worse vs good. Thanks My 2nd daughter out of 4 will be starting HS dual college classes this Summer in her 8th grade going to Freshman year.

I concur! Different curriculum materials work for different kids, situations, and parents. I will say IEW worked well for my child who has no words. It gives techniques for summarizing and getting a story on paper. Andrew Puduwa mentions IEW is really suited for kids who need a springboard for stories. Kids who see writing prompts as an impossible nightmare may find it helpful. My child who liked it found her voice and became a great writer and now we don’t need IEW. I think sometimes just waiting to ask kids to write stories may be appropriate. Give them the tools of grammar, penmanship, spelling, copywork, great books, and dictation and they will get excited to write about a topic they love later on. My other child was in tears over IEW. She is creative, has lots of words, and an almost photographic memory. She would cry when asked to summarize these very short stories because she could recall every word. The check lists made her anxious and not focus on telling the story. I had to take the checklist away until she was done writing and that helped immensely. IEW may be wonderful for the older grades. I have only used it in elementary. Sometimes less time consuming curriculum materials allow more freedom of exploration, time for their brains to process well what they are learning, and developing skills outside of textbook learning. My kids did a simple science workbook it early/mid elementary and retained more of the concepts and had a pleasant experience it seems because I wasn’t forcing so much information at once. Later they will study a subject almost obsessively without me prompting them as they get older out of interest and developmental readiness. I love your frank opinions!

I don't know how to find the link, I Just paid $1,200.00 at the vet for my cat Sylvester, he had a blockage in his urine, I had him in the hospital for three days, they unblock the blockage And put a Caviter in, and put him on a I.V, on the second day they took the catheter out, and he blocked again, so they unblocked him the second time, and they tried to put the catheter in the second time, but could not get it to go in, but he was able to pee, so they wanted me to bring him Home, because no one is at the hospital overnight, so they told me if he doesn't pee tonight to call the emergency line, Now I am really worried if he gets blocked again, I will not be able to do anything else for him 😢he is relaxing Now and he is puring, I can tell he is happy to be home with me, I just hope he is able to pee soon, I won't know anything until he goes to the litter box, he is drinking Abit of water Now but didn't try to pee yet, he is on some liquid meds one for mussel spaz release and anti blockage medicine, 😢 I so worried 😢 Because I have no money left, and I am only on social assistance ATM, it is so sad, All I need is a little bit of help, I Sylvester when I went to rehab 6 years ago and he has changed my life in so many ways, I also have a 12 year old Dog Boxxer, and Boxxer Knew something was wrong with Sylvester before me, Because he Boxxer started crying when he stared getting sick, I would give anything to help my pets, They are my Kids That I probably will Never have and love them so much,😢I wish someone could Help us please 🙏 all I can do is pray😢

Great steps that can benefit any homeschooling family. My oldest is one year away from being high school and I've been planning. Pretty sure things will change until then, but it's good to have a foundation to go off of. Having a degree, at least Associates, is another great idea. Several families I know have kids that went off to a traditional 4-year + or trade school. But with dual and following the state's requirements and matching it up to the institution of choice makes things easier. (Your hair looks amazing Becky!!)
