Please, turn off the background music! It is beyond me why KZfaq content creators think playing background music over the presenter's voice is somehow enhancing their videos. We came to hear you; we are not here to fight background music to hear you. The background music quickly becomes extremely annoying, distracting, and intrusive. Many folks have hearing difficulties, thus while concentrating on your dialog we must also concentrate on tuning out the music; it is very frustrating. Your background music ruins an otherwise exceptionally good presentation.

I was told (pounded into y head) get a budget radio, build a killer antenna, get out like an escape artist. I have a 5watt B-fang, with a good antenna, I can reach over 50 miles with signal strength hat makes the question whether i have a "big" radio (100 watts) or just a "giant" antenna.

Can i make a smaller one for an apartment balcony? New shortwave listener here in Texas, liked and subbed
@HamRadioPrep14 күн бұрын
Hi, It depends on the size of your balcony, but a dipole for the 10M band is small (28,400 16 feet 4 inches) which if you make it inverted V would be 8 feet 2 inches each leg.
@jaredsteele850614 күн бұрын
@HamRadioPrep thank you for the response balcony is 12 feet by 5 feet, i think a v shape could work.

@@jaredsteele8506 One of the nice things about this hobby is playing with the antennas. With the space we have available we can put a wire antenna in different ways until we find the ideal position and with good SWR :)
@jrfoleyjr14 күн бұрын
You disappointed me. You started off with a non-resonent end fed wire and did not discuss the end fed half wave anywhere until the last hurrah. The EFHW is by far the easiest, quickest antenna for any newbie to get on the air with no fiddly-diddly and NO TUNER NEEDED. The feed point is next to the shack at the end of the wire, simplifying setup. Build a 49:1 transformer with a FT240-43 toroid and some 18ga wire for the transformer and the capacitor [for under $20, the transformer] and whatever cost is for a half wavelength of wire for the lowest band of operation. Total cost can be less than $50 tops for a 80-10 efhw that covers 80-40-20-15-10 meters with good swr. Buy a MFJ efhw in the 80-120 buck range.

The two main features of a beginner station are simplicity, and use a separate radio for V/U. All inclusive radios are more complicated to use, and when one thing breaks you have NO radio until it's fixed. At least with a separate V/U radio you'll still have something while the other one is down. Maybe I shouldn't bring brand into the conversation, but every time I wanted an HF radio Yaesu had the right radio for me. I'm on #3 and #4 right now. V/U radios are a mix.

This is probably a less than intelligent question but lets say I get the IC7300 what antenna would be a good match? I also have to take into account that I live in a town home community with limited back yard space for anything horizontal and even vertical height could be an issue. Do I have any other options for a base station type of radio and antenna combo? Thank you for any response.

The FCC ruled on Satillite dishes that HOAs can to some degree restrict their use, but those restrictions CAN NOT DENY ACCESS. Tenents and Homeowners have the right to access. This would be the best way to deal with thee HOA problem(s) in the ham radio community If the FCC made a rule that says that someone who holds a valid ameteur radio lisence can not be denied accss to any part of th spectrum that their license allows them to use This does not require legislation. it can be done through the FCCs regular rule-making process and a proprly done FCC regulation has the force of federal law! I am convinced for numerous reasons that this is the path to success in dealing with HOAs

I love idea of doing contests. I’ve started something that syncs online and offline using the browsers indexed db (you can find in my qrz). Along with that I did a spring native rest api for the backend. This app would make use of the same files n1mm uses for defining the context fields…. Then I gave up bcs I wouldn’t be hosting an expensive infrastructure for everyone to use. Instead I bought an adapter that allows me to use my 12v batteries to supply power to my laptop directly and I just use n1mm. But you’re hitting a need field ops have to allow them to log and submit cabrillo logs. Idk if you planned the cabrillo, but it’s important. 73!

It all depends on propagation. You could have a 200ft tower and 2000w. If conditions stink, you're yelling in the dark. If conditions are good, you can use a coathanger and talk to the globe.
