Nice pickups Tom, out of town digs are always fun. I had to order a copy of the The Listening Party book, it looks like a great bedtime reading book that can be done in small bites. I did not know there was a dualdisc version of the Nellie McKay album. Hah, I also picked up that Whitney Houston album this month, sadly it would be her last one. Cool Jean Michel Jarre collection.

Yeah, those are my kind of books, the more browsey sort of ones, since I'm not much of a reader (no idea why). I actually didn't know that Nellie album was on DualDisc either, until I saw it! :) Thanks for watching and commenting!

I have never seen my backlog as a burden, its just potential future happiness. If I wasn't listening to any of it I guess it would be a burden, I treat music like movies and books, usually once or occasionally twice is enough. I keep them on the shelf in those darn plastic sleeves in case I ever feel the need to revisit something.

More power to people like you, Brendon Snyder, and others, who love to keep on collecting. I wish I could see them as a long term thing like you. I suppose I could save them for when I'm retired, I'm sure I'd have lots of listening time then, but for now, the cleanse feels good. Thanks as always for watching and commenting, Wes!

Close Encounters (of the third Kind) score: That album blew up my amp! Just bought the album and put it on the turn table. In the opening cue where the strings comes in oh so softly and starts to rise in tempo until the brass hits with its one note blast my amp went pop! and a trail of smoke rose behind. Oh well. After that I would by myself an amp that was so much more superior that it would last until it was stolen by a moving company in 2015. The Fury: I heard that score live before the album or movie ever came out! Performed by the late Calvin Simons and the Oakland Symphony was a flawless performance. I will never forget that evening !

Thanks for the show and tell. I have enjoyed that. Most of the music that you have presented in your library I have myself. Note: the boston pops Bartania album for some reason is out of print. It has an incredible suite by Williams of the score to Jane Eyre. This suite is a homage to the works of composer Ralph Vaughn Williams. I presently have on order a copy of John Williams disaster film scores. 4 disc set includes a lot of music that was not used in the films (The Poseidon Adventure, Earthquake, Towering inferno ) This is on La La Land records and I am still waiting for it to come out if ever!

My first exposure to the music of John Williams was for the 1965 TV show Lost in Space. I would tune in just to hear some of the familiar tunes of LIS, so much so it did not take me long to recognize his particular style and followed his music since.

A very nice haul! If I may, I would like to recommend a recent James Newton Howard disc on Sony Classical called Night after Night. This is the music selectin of Howard's work on the M. Night Shyamalan films. It's more than that but rearrangements to make the selections sound more like concert pieces then just mear film score cues.. Here's a story for you, back in October of 1988 a girlfriend and myself walked by the wheeler auditorium in Berkeley CA and saw that was playing was the premiere of a science fiction opera by Phillip Glass called 1000 airplanes on the roof. To make a long story short to my surprise it was Linda Ronstadt that was the mezzo Soprano in that one act work.

Great haul Tom. From the looks of just the inserts they’re in phenomenal shape. If you’re trying out some country you might look to stuff from the ’80s (Eddie Rabbit, Rosanne Cash, Kenny Rogers, Don Williams, Dolly Parton, etc…). It wasn’t so twangy or all about going to the bars and a lot of the music crossed over. I’m glad you survived that ice storm. My daughter who lives in West Eugene sent me some photos and that was really nasty. Take care…. Tom

Thanks as always for the comments! Yeah, all the discs are in great shape (I'm picky about the condition of my CDs). After the video I noticed that the "water" damage on the Whitney booklet wasn't just water - had an unsavory odor coming from it, but not overpowering. So I spritzed it with some Lysol and hung it up like flypaper to dry (weighted at the bottom so it'd stretch the wrinkles out), and it's much better. :)

So glad I was able to watch this video! You made me smile and laugh multiple times. Man, I miss watching your videos more often. Shame on me, lol. Anyway, your favorites: HM: Wow, a Chris Botti album I wasn't aware of! I'll have to give it a listen. I also enjoyed Jonas Brothers' newest album, but I also will not have it on my own favorite list of 2023, but still worth mentioning. Interesting rant about the Indiana Jones album. Yeah, strange decisions. Maybe it has to do with just the kerfuffle with physical media in general taking place at the moment ...? Oh well. I listened to the All Time Low album earlier in 2023, but didn't review it. I'll have to go back and listen to it again to see what I think of it. I don't know why I don't follow Straight No Chaser more than I do. I've enjoyed so much of what they have released in the past. Maybe I'll check this one out. oh AJR ... lol, I don't actually listen to them to be honest, but I know many others who do for better or worse. Well, good for you for standing up for your own personal decision to include it in your list. Thanks for being such a great host on your channel, Tom. Always great to see what you'll bring!

Thanks for watching and commenting, Thom! I've since found Elvis' first Christmas Album on CD with the original track list. Perhaps one day it'll be remastered and re-released, as well as Bing Crosby's "Merry Christmas" (original title and original LP version track list). I'm surprised they haven't already, with the nostalgia market seeming to be as popular as it's ever been.

This was a fun one to watch Tom! This is quite a high note for the almost end of the segment. I'll be very curious to know what you think of "Brazilliance" ... the moment I saw that I thought to myself, "I wonder what that one is like and if Tom will like it or not." haha ... And I definitely am curious what your thoughts on Robin Thicke's first album is like. I havean't listened to the whole thing, but as an artist I do enjoy his voice and most of his arrangements, plus his musical style. He had quite a bit more hair back then and was figuring out how to be the artist hs is now if I recall correctly. Can't wait for the grand finale next month!
