Lovely lights, thank you for showing! I was advised today by our builder to put the strip in the middle of the upper cupboard however. Another said to stick it at the back. tWhat do you think of that please? Thank you🙏
@RealDIYbuild
@RealDIYbuild Күн бұрын
It would depend on the type of light. If it is a single unit then the middle would be fine, if it is a strip, (like in the video) I prefer under the front pelmet. I think; at the back the light is behind your kettle casting a shadow. At the front the light will 'light up' your kettle.

@RealDIYbuild
@RealDIYbuild 12 күн бұрын
Hi, thanks for your comment, all you need to do is google a local UPVC window manufacturer and you can buy a new double glazed unit. Then you can fit the glass as shown in this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/od2ZgtKBstDOkYU.html You can remove beading to get the old glass out and just replace the new one.

Great videos guys. Can I ask what planning route you went down, ie permitted development, full planning, building regs control or just building notice. Did you have plans drawn up. Reason for asking is I’m seriously thinking of doing a small self build lean to extension at rear of house under permitted development but using a building notice only. Been advised though to do a building control approval with full plans which ain’t cheap.
@RealDIYbuild
@RealDIYbuild 5 ай бұрын
Hi there, thanks for your comment. If the room is to be habitable you need building control approval - provided it falls within the 'permitted development' rules. You don't need full plans, when you register with building control a building officer will visit and you explain your intentions and the officer will tell you what is necessary before the next visit. It is all explained step by step if you follow all the videos - try not to skip so you don't miss any detail and you should be fine. Good luck! Don't forget to subscribe. 👍

Been watching your videos nonstop as I am planning an extension myself, your videos are convincing me that’s it’s really possible, where did you get all this knowledge from ? Do share your source if possible and what about all the tools did you buy them or rent it ? Thanks a lot in advance and also do a total cost breakdown if possible.
@RealDIYbuild
@RealDIYbuild 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment Joseph, The knowledge is not as daunting as it seems and we got most from building regs and other youtube videos. The first thing is to get the building officer round and tell him what you are doing, then he will tell you what foundations he wants to see, you dig them, he looks, you pour concrete in. And.... you're on your way. We bought most of the tools except things like the whacker plate. We will do the costs soon, I'm going to do a video showing the entire build in 15 mins or so and will put the costs in there.

I prefer the wetter mix, rolling small beads on my mortar board and lifting and placing with small /medium trowel, granted you get the odd bead that falls but you can really get it in there tight. I also try to avoid mortar ,brick face cleaner chemical because when it gets into the mortar you've just used it eats into that too creating a surface crumble over time because it's an acid after all which degrades and reacts with the lime Alkaline / Acid reaction. Also what about the verticals ?
@RealDIYbuild
@RealDIYbuild 6 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment, I can understand why you would use a wetter mix, but we found a dryer mix was better for us. As for the perpendiculars (perps) (verticals) you can see them being addressed in the same way during the clip, but we focussed on a horizontal run for our explanation. Keep the comments coming. Thanks for watching.👍

fantastic series so far. It definitely gives us a lot more confidence in starting our own projects! Would have been nice to see the finishing touches on the roof (like how you turned the felt over those 200mm strips, and also how you sealed it around the brick wall ) not a biggie, we can figure it out from other roofing vids.

@RealDIYbuild
@RealDIYbuild 7 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment, because we are going over plasterboard we thought a single skim coat would be OK, all we wanted was to get it flat and smooth for painting, and to be honest, it has come out really well. I think the smoothing out might be easier if you do 2 coats, so if the wall was a bit rougher you would need to do that.👍

Little tip. You would of been better pulling bends on the pipe work top and bottom too many chances of pipe leaking - Get a little brush not your finger for the flux. No sleeve on pipe work through the wall , Also no need what so ever to take the rad off really simple to cut in and pipe up ,, last thing you should not put flux inside the fittings and clean excess after. Not bad for a beginner

Gents, can i ask about returning the inner leaf for the door way, is this set out from the beginning, or do you only return it after the first course? The in terns of the cavity fill, what was the mix, ive read a lean mix, was it only a course of bricks deep to maintain the 225 below dpc?
@RealDIYbuild
@RealDIYbuild 11 ай бұрын
Hi Sunit, you can see the doorway at 14.00/16.55 It is a cavity up to the top row of blocks then it is returned to the outer wall. Leave the returning block off until you put the cavity fill in and then it can sit on top of the fill. The cavity fill is about bulk more than concrete strength. so 6-8 parts ballast 1 part cement would do.

@RealDIYbuild

Hi Patrick, it is a radial circuit rather than a ring circuit. This gives us 2 options we can have a 4mm with a 32A breaker or 2.5mm with a 16A breaker (dependant on the size of the circuit) . Because this is a kitchen extension (Kettles and such) I opted for the 4mm. If you are thinking of installing a circuit, you would have to get professional advice for your particular requirements. 👍
