OMG this is pure genius..... I only just ordered my first microscope yesterday, I didn't realize this can be an issue, one of the main issues I have is reading IC numbers and checking the alignment.

20:11 I don’t really understand why noise in the heater voltage makes noise in the temperature reading… Does the temperature noise come from voltage noise (coupled from the heater current)? It’s not actually temperature based noise?

One of the biggest reasons for the addition of copper to the SAC305 solder is to help control the problem associated with copper dissolving into the solder. This is called Copper Dissolution and a problem affecting through hole soldering where the corner of the pad joining to the barrel of the plated through hole dissolves and breaks the connection around the edge. The comments about Tin Whiskers are very true and you can get more information at nepp.nasa.gov/whisker/ .

Hey can you do a stress test, like with those plates you have for letting the solder melt how about a wire attached to it and put a weight on it and see how long it will take for the solder to break hopefully it doesn't break the tinning.

Huh, my MG Chemicals one never flows well, it strings a ton (instead of creating a round blob) and always needs a ton of flux to work OK. it's the #4925. it was expensive as heck, but ti was 454g lol more than i'll use in a lifetime. it also. doens't stick to anything, the iron or the pads (Although lowering my temps helped with that)

The GT120 sure has a poor looking display. Looks like they cut a lot of corners to make this version. Sad really.

Edit: yeah, it’s not double insulated It must makes no use of the ground pin whatsoever to be double insulated. I wonder if the Chinese even know what that symbol means… ‘don’t like to give a reach around’ 😆

Unbelievable how Hantek copied the Keysight UI design! Just nothing they designed new! Siglent is doing the same. I think this is IP thieft. Look how Keithley develops their own UI design - completely unique one!

Hey, have you been able to program the Wio-E5 directly? I haven't had any luck with it. Can't even get it to send something which i could see on my SDR. If you got it to do someting i would be interested in that! 😃

Pinecil V2 with short gross tips Sequre S20 with genuine JBC C115 Sequre S60 with genuine JBC C210 If you’re looking for some review suggestions. To find the best portable iron (do they beat TS80p). Also, can you always measure tip to earth potential and tip to PSU rails continuity, please? The latter can be a problem incase PSU output is grounded like with T3A. Thanks!

How does it perform with that barrel jack adapter connected to a regular PSU? Can it be used with a 24V adapter? Any chance of using it on the field with a 13.8V car battery?
@davadoff
@davadoff 4 күн бұрын
Performance is no different. That adapter just connects barrel jack to the USB power pins. 24v is likely too high for genuine JBC tips (230W if 2.5R load). 15-16v at the cartridge gives 100W with JBC C245. FNIRSI spec says 100W max. 13:23 - It looks like this iron limits the power so maybe 24v will work.

Hi Steven, you really had me sold on the soldering iron (or is it a staton at this point?). Ordered one this morning off of Ali! One thing that I would have loved in this review would be a teardown of the products and perhaps a guide on how and how much to “overclock” it. It comes with a barrel jack to USB cable, so I assume 20V isn’t a hard limit :)

Looks like a really nice iron. Using JBC T245 compatible cartridges is great. But that horrible scrolling digit temperature display is close to being a deal-breaker. Some Chinese software engineer must have had too much time on his hands and thought it was a good idea to animate the temperature display making it impossible to read until it has reached the setpoint.

One thing that breaks on Fnirsi, is USB C jack, after some months of usage, usb C jack will start to bend left and right... to prevent total damage i literally epoxy glued that 15cm cable to the soldering iron, now its fixated and cannot move... one plastic part 5-6mm wide in that area would prevent USB C connector being destroyed over time... so plastic part is supporting usb c cable, from all 4 sides... 3:37 - Here you can see that metal connector is not supported by black plastic.
