I find their music to be superficial and 2 dimensional. The Glamrock hairmetal image is stupid. They put out a cover of temple of love recently and butchered it in the watered down lame bvb way. However I absolutely loved the billy idol cover👍👍👍 Even a broken clock in correct twice a day. Overall lame music! They need to not make such predictable lame riffs, but what is do hopeless and sad is that they don't even realize it?!

Stubled upon this.. great review. Spot on.. saw accept when they opened for Iron Maiden in 84.. Balls to the wall got me hooked so you immediately go backwards through the catalog. This new version is actually better than ever..no dis to UDO..but thw songs and arrangement and quality are amazing.. hats off to Andy Sneap.. the riffs are powerful, memorable and rhe solos ha e melodic character than brings you in.. Wolf is amazing.. you can always twllthe 1 or 2 tracks he did NOT write.. cheers

Once I got used to the vocals, I grew to love the album Slaughter of the Soul by At the Gates. The style of riffing is just addictive. I didn't get into Only For the Weak by In Flames because of the clean vocals, and I wasn't used to the weird stuff from Reroute to Remain, so it took me time to get into them. But once I found Artifacts of the Black Rain, that encouraged me to explore their late 90s albums, and I fell in love. Now I own an In Flames t-shirt. The Black Dahlia Murder's lyrics took me some getting used to, as did the second half of Elder Misanthropy in particular, but the riffs and drumming were just addicting. The lyrics also have this interesting style of poetic riding, almost like a more vulgar Cradle of Filth. Now I own a beanie with their logo on it. Meanwhile, I'm kinda the opposite from you with Cradle of Filth. I got into them before getting into more extreme metal. But then the corny dark love song schtick and some other things related to their lyrics just became more unappealing to me over time, Dani filth sounds almost like Cartman at times, and his live performances are just him doing a generic "black metal" voice that sounds like Strong Bad on helium most of the time with some switching between his iconic high scream and the angry Cartman screaming with seemingly no strategy. He doesn't do the ominous spoken word voice live, which actually helped the atmosphere at times in the studio version. So I really ended up moving on from Cradle. There's definitely some decent musicianship and great atmosphere in their songs, and Dani Filth has a damn good vocabulary and way of wording his lyrics at times, but that doesn't excuse how goofy he sounds most of the time, how corny the "evil woman" and fantasy love songs are, or such lines as "Cunt, cunt, cunt!" The Alissa era of Arch Enemy also shrunk on me as I dug more into their 2000s work. And also, similarly to Cradle, it got to a point where I couldn't ignore some of the unappealing lyrics of the Alissa era. The albums from Wages of Sin to Doomsday Machine are fucking KILLER. They do most of what the Alissa era did except better. Lyrics are less juvenile, songs are more complex and less predictable which makes them more relistenable imo, and Angela is a less monotonous screamer than Alissa has been since after the Agonist.

I've always loved metal but always hated Slayer because I'm anti-religion and I had _heard_ that they were a Christian metal band. So, because of that, I never cared to listen. I KNOW that isn't a good enough reason, but for some reason, I still can't bring myself to listen to them. Maybe there's something else that I don't like and I just can't put my finger on it. For being a metal lover, there are tons of metal bands that I just don't care for, like Mastodon. I can't even pinpoint what I don't like and I still don't know what it is that I do love about metal. Oh well. It doesn't keep me up at night, so I think I'm good.

Old video aside I wish metallica had penned I Disappear and No Leaf Clover during the load reload sessions. Who knows maybe they did as incomplete base song ideas. Add in some unwritten heavier, yet contemporary, songs that were more type o negative, napalm death in the 1990s heck even skunk anansie and you'd have a winner. Putting out two dad rock-ish duds was not the way forward.
