Hey, Reema! I absolutely love this movie! The fusion of both casts and the juggling of so many moving parts was near virtuosic! Had you seen THE ROGUE CUT, as was recommended, you would have seen Anna Paquin's Rogue brought back into the fold for a phenomenal action sequence in which Magneto and Charles really cut loose barely getting away with their lives from the Sentinels! I rank this film higher than X2 because it came closer to approximating its comic book inspiration despite the "Days of Future Past" source material being a greater level of difficulty to adapt than "God Loves, Man Kills". I always give the X films latitude with respect to comic accuracy because they continue laying track for a locomotive that already left the station. Despite some unavoidable relationship and plot changes, this adaptation really captures the spirit of the Claremont era. The powerful duality of Charles and Erik remains the core of these films and you get a double dose of it here: as young antagonists making a temporary alliance and as weary, regretful veterans reconciling while facing extinction. JLaw's Mystique remains the moral fulcrum, Evan Peters' Quicksilver delivers a bravura showpiece stunt and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine gets to play in the same sandbox with the kids! The dystopic future sequence is particularly horrific apocalyptically presenting the deaths of iconic characters. New talent is showcased in that thrilling trademark style of powers used in concert with Blink's use of portals being an amazing highlight! Just like the use of the Cuban Missile Crisis in "First Class", "Future Past" also cleverly blends history into the mix with Nixon, the JFK assassination and the Zapruder-like footage of the Parisian incident. The dangling plot thread of Mystique-Stryker goes nowhere leaving Wolverine's story between now and "Apocalypse" open to speculation and the utopian ending that reunites the original cast leaves their parallel 21st-century adventures open to speculation. However, there's no shortage of X foes like Mr. Sinister, the Brood, Sauron, Bastion, Selene, Exodus, Proteus, Reavers, etc that could have come into play and plenty of unresolved contention between Mags and Charley that could have easily flared up providing fodder for numerous exploits. The speculation is part of the fun! Trask had no interest in immortality. He was being completely genuine about his belief that the struggle against obsolescence by the advent of Homo Superior could unite Homo Sapiens in a way no other existential threat could. Magneto lined the Sentinels' polymer bodies with metal from the railroad tracks so he could manipulate them. X-MEN TIMELINES: Egypt --> 1845 --> Nagasaki --> First Class --> DOFP --> Origins ------------------------------------------------> X1 --> X2 --> X3 --> Wolverine -------> New Mutants ---------------------------> Logan Egypt --> 1845 --> Nagasaki --> First Class --> DOFP ----------------> Apocalypse --> Dark Phoenix ------------------------------------------------> Deadpool --> Deadpool 2 -------> DOFP Utopia Egypt --> 1845 --> Nagasaki --> First Class --> DOFP ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> DOFP Dystopia DO NOT watch the films in release order! Follow this RECOMMENDED ORDER instead which keeps the multiple timelines orderly and enables the young cast to have a consecutive trilogy with "Days of Future Past" set in 1973, "Apocalypse" set in 1983, "Dark Phoenix" set in 1992 and "Deadpool" set in 2016. "Deadpool" does NOT come next! The end-credit scene ties into "X-MEN: APOCALYPSE"! RECOMMENDED VIEWING ORDER: X-Men X2: X-Men United X3: The Last Stand X-Men Origins: Wolverine X-Men: First Class The Wolverine: Extended Cut X-Men: Days of Future Past: The Rogue Cut X-Men: Apocalypse X-Men: Dark Phoenix Deadpool New Mutants Logan Deadpool 2

Hey, Reema! "You'll die with your heart in your hands." Remember this line. Its true meaning is incredible. This film captures the essence of the seminal 1983 mini-series written by Chris Claremont and illustrated by Frank Miller simply titled "Wolverine" and even integrates elements of the "Fatal Attractions" storyline that sees Wolvie lose his adamantium. I really enjoyed "The Wolverine"! It's one of the better X-Men movies and the only one to explore Logan's many Japanese sojourns over the years in the comics. I wish you had seen the EXTENDED CUT which has even more character development of Shingen and Mariko as well as some spectacularly bloody deaths during the snowy village ninja battle! The set pieces are extraordinary like the Nagasaki flashback, the footrace through Tokyo, the exhilarating bullet train sequence and the epic battle against a pack of ninjas! Although Silver Samurai becomes more of a mech suit and contains a different occupant than the comics, the transformation of Yashida from a compassionate young officer to a selfish, grasping magnate is a compellingly tragic turnabout. Yashida was extracting bone marrow from the openings in the severed claws. Rila Fukushima nearly steals the show as Yukio and Hiroyuki Sanada, Tao Okamoto and Will Yun Lee deliver solid performances bringing Shingen, Mariko and Harada from the comics to vivid life! The end-credit scene for "X3: The Last Stand" explained Charles' new body but not his Patrick Stewart face. Comic book knowledge of Charles' twin fills that plot-hole unless you assume Xavier is projecting Stewart's face into everyone's minds for the sake of familiarity. VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure you see the ROGUE CUT for "Days of Future Past" especially if you like Anna Paquin as Rogue. X-MEN TIMELINES: Egypt --> 1845 --> Nagasaki --> First Class --> DOFP --> Origins ------------------------------------------------> X1 --> X2 --> X3 --> Wolverine -------> New Mutants ---------------------------> Logan Egypt --> 1845 --> Nagasaki --> First Class --> DOFP ----------------> Apocalypse --> Dark Phoenix ------------------------------------------------> Deadpool --> Deadpool 2 -------> DOFP Utopia Egypt --> 1845 --> Nagasaki --> First Class --> DOFP ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> DOFP Dystopia DO NOT watch the films in release order! Follow this RECOMMENDED ORDER instead which keeps the multiple timelines orderly and enables the young cast to have a consecutive trilogy with "Days of Future Past" set in the 1970s, "Apocalypse" set in the 1980s, "Dark Phoenix" set in the 1990s and "Deadpool" set in the 2000s.

Hey, Reema! After the original trilogy, the story rewinds to tell two prequel tales about Wolverine in 1979 and Xavier in 1962 before resuming where we left off with "THE WOLVERINE". Make sure you see the EXTENDED EDITION of "THE WOLVERINE" next and be aware of the END-CREDIT SCENE that leads into "DAYS OF FUTURE PAST". Matthew Vaughn not only captured the '60's era but integrated real history into X-Men lore. The historical context, the back stories and the casting were phenomenal! The franchise was moribund after the third entry's lack of fidelity to classic source material and the wildly uneven Wolverine origin movie but this film injected fresh energy and blood into the franchise. It still veered dramatically from comic book accuracy despite the Grant Morrison-style uniforms and Nazi hunting sequences but it capitalized, as all X movies do, on the powerful duality of Charles and Erik. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are as amazing as Charles and Erik as Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen were! Red demon guy Azazel is Nightcrawler's father! Although nothing like his character in the comics, Kevin Bacon is a vicious villain in this. I liked Oliver Platt's sympathetic character and felt terrible he had such a small role to play. Anything kitschy was deliberate and the acknowledgement of the first trilogy with cameos by Rebecca Romijn and Hugh Jackman was a real treat. Emma Frost was a real let-down although it was through no fault of January Jones. The origins of these characters and the schism between them is absolutely fascinating. This is the only movie that is the same in all three X-Men timelines and is the chronological starting point for the whole cinematic X-Men universe. There is no X-Men movie that doesn't entertain on some level including the duds. This is one of the richer ones. X-MEN TIMELINES: Egypt --> 1845 --> Nagasaki --> First Class --> DOFP --> Origins ------------------------------------------------> X1 --> X2 --> X3 --> Wolverine -------> New Mutants ----------------------> Logan Egypt --> 1845 --> Nagasaki --> First Class --> DOFP ----------------> Apocalypse --> Dark Phoenix ------------------------------------------------> Deadpool --> Deadpool 2 -----> DOFP Utopia Egypt --> 1845 --> Nagasaki --> First Class --> DOFP -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> DOFP Dystopia Do NOT watch the films in release order!!!! This recommended order keeps the multiple timelines orderly and concludes the saga with two strong films.

The mountain is Caladhras. Sindarin name. The mountains as is everything. Alive. The elves are one with the earth. Which is not just a trite thing to say. It’s deep. As deep as the 25 books and letters that still are cropping up to this day. Many even share them that remained in the family as many families were correspondents with Tolkien for a long time. Many decades. Like JustSomeGuy. And others.

@Makkaru112 my apologies Mr Tolkien, for not properly identifying Caladhras, and giving it's vast in depth history. I was trying to give a simple point of reference to scene that she could easily identify. I do not understand how it's name and legendary history, plays a part in how Aragorn, Son of Arathorn, was ready to fight Boramir son of Denathor of Gondor, over his possession of The One Ring,

2014, big superhero movie year. But after introducing Guardians of The Galaxy and awaiting the return of the Avengers in the MCU, Marvel/Fox's Children of The Atom were just getting warmed up. Based on a classic storyline from 1981 that pre-dates The Terminator (believe it or not). The end-credits of The Wolverine (2013) showing the name "Trask" drove people (us fans) nuts because most of us knew who he was, what he would make and where the fate of the universe was going. Bryan Singer (pre-controversy, y'all know why) to direct this 5th movie of the series aka "X4" was unprecedented. Blending the castmembers of old and new became such a blast. Introducing newer characters in both eras to greatly effect history was perfect. As always, the constant tones of the film series endure. Good and evil, prejudice and tolerance, grief and faith, similarity and difference. The hallmarks of the comics, 50 years old at the time, being interpreted as they suppose to be. There is an alternate version known as The Rogue cut (2015) which is the complete version of the film that clearly makes it the biggest X-Men film ever. It broke several Box office records and became the highest-grossing X-Men film for 2 years, dethroning X3:The Last Stand. From here, the evolution goes into overdrive. You are going to love the next 3 films.

It's definitely my favorite. I love how it brings together the OG X-Men cast and the First Class cast and manages to retcon some of the series' biggest mistakes out of existence. If the franchise had ended here, I would've been totally fine with it. My favorite scene has to be Magneto commandeering the Sentinels and descending upon Washington. It's like a scene ripped straight from the comics. (It also reminds me of the beginning of the classic X-Men arcade game. "Welcome...TO DIE!")

Reembok, maybe you don't care but Mission Impossible was a popular TV series in the 60s, created by, and written by a real ex- US operative. One of the original characters in the show was Jim Phelps (played by Peter Graves) and here played by Jon Voight. OG fans, and the original cast of the show absolutely HATED this movie because of how it turns the Phelps character into a traitor. The series was about a team of specialists who use illusion to stop the bad guys, tyrannical dictators, corrupt politicians, rogue spies, etc etc..but it was focused on team spirit, and cunning; whereas this movie is centered on one guy Ethan. So, it's loosely based. The '96 movie is the closest to the original though compared to the sequels in tone and with the whole illusion/spy craft angle. Oh, the theme music by Lalo Scifrin is so iconic! I personally love Danny Elfman's rendition of it here! It has more energy than the original theme which is more "sneaky" sounding.

the problem with "recommending other fantasy films based on books" is that you're starting out with what is unequivocally the best example in that category. Going to, say, Eragon, from this, will be like going on a trip to Amarillo, Texas after you've just been vacationing in Vatican City.
