I have panic attacks with open spaces and bridges while driving or being a passenger. I have panic disorder outside of driving that sometimes acts up. So I had panic attacks in cars while in open spaces so my mind thinks theyre a threat. I literally have never had a fear of driving or open spaces. It's mainly a fear of having a panic while driving which is triggered by open spaces,bridges, and high elevation mountain driving. Which has put me at a disadvantage because I live in a area that has plenty of that type of driving

I have anxiety when I got into a bad car accidnet years ago up a hill and i got stuck and couldnt move my car or go anywhere (non drive able) its been 9 yrs since i driven up a hill and i always find an excuse or avoid to do so. Im very traumatized by the accident and would like to slowly trust myself to get over this fear/anxiety.

What happens if you remove or avoid the trigger? If you avoid driving anxiety by not driving, two things can happen: 1) Your anxiety can move somewhere else. This isn't my theory, it's what hundreds of people I've worked with have told me. Having anxiety is like having pressure inside you and if you don't give it an outlet (like driving) it'll find another way out. Your driving won't be a problem because you're no longer driving but now it may come out when you're a passenger, flying, in busy shops etc. Avoiding the trigger is not a solution. Some people think automatic cars or self-driving cars will help but they won't because driving anxiety has nothing to do with driving and cars. 2) You'll have to give up driving which can cause various issues. You may not be able to take public transport depending on where you live and driving often can't be avoided in some jobs. An electrician isn't going to get the bus carrying all their tools! Giving up driving sometimes brings on a whole new range of problems like feeling a failure, spending more time travelling and having to make excuses as to why you don't drive. I mention this in other videos such as this one kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n8dkfMJ6uN-yaJs.htmlsi=UV0QevpTLiSZrt1y&t=365

What triggered mine was self doubt brought on by a lifetime of untreated ADHD. I had confidence until my parents screamed at me any time I made a mistake. (Not big things like running a stop sign, more like not being perfectly centered in a lane or going too slow.) Then I’d over correct myself and get anxious, which made things worse. I’d follow all the “anti anxiety” tricks but would still be making dumb errors the moment I started to relax and not be anxious. I’m still terrified I’ll zone out from overstimulation and cause an accident or get shot by an aggressive driver because made another unknown error.

I'm going through exactly the same thing. I got diagnosed with autism and adhd when I was 28 (I'm 31 now) and I feel that it affects everything. I constantly second guess myself and find it so hard to focus on everything at the same time. I find it all so stressful that by the time I finish driving I'm absolutely exhausted.

i am a new driver. i believe driving is stressful for me because of lack of solo practice, which has been largely out of my control. the only car i have is a mustang but its old and its a manual. im still learning to drive it, and its the only car ive been able to drive in the past 6 months. when im away at school, i dont need or have a car because school is within walking distance. i dont know what would make me feel confident driving, aside from the practice which ive been unable to get.

Forget the labels, they're all the same thing. What you're talking about would be called procrastination but that is just another label! There isn't always something that needs releasing and when it comes to overthinking, the simple solution (which works) is to get on with it and do it.

I have no fear of driving except for driving down hill because I want to jerk the car to the left. It has to be a long stretch of hill or mountain with more than one lane on my side. like the Sierra Nevadas or the Altamont pass. I have no problem driving down windy roads on a short mountain on a regular two lane road. Also, driving at night gives me anxiety because the road turns into one on dimly lit roads.

I know exactly what triggered mine. I was on the highway 5 am on my way to work, dark, raining really hard. Mind you I have my license for a year now and it happened 3 months in I think. I was never scared of driving.I‘m 34 . Just need more every day practice to get familiar with my own car. Anyway I was on my way to work and all of a sudden on my side the windshield wiper stopped working cause a piece of it flew away. I just heard a loud noise. And with that much rain pouring down I was terrified. Could not see shit, fearing for my life cause it was dark. Did not see if I could safely pull over. I am small 160 cm so reaching over to see out the passenger side was impossible. I was shaking so hard thinking I‘m about to crash into something. Cause it looked like someone was pouring buckets of water like the car wash. Impossible to see a road, a car. I managed to get to a gas station and was so under shock I couldn‘t cry. What‘s upsetting till this day is when I told anybody what I have experienced they laugh. They think it was a funny situation. I feared for my life for 5 min what felt like hours and they laughed. How stupid can anyone be? So ever since then I‘m scares to drive in the rain or rain+ darkness. Somehow it makes me nervous to drive whenever now I am ok during the day and when there‘s no traffic but it triggered other rhings where I was really suuuuper fine and confident with. Had absolutely no problem with driving itself. Was done really fast with driving school. Because even though I got my license later in life I knew how to drive and know the rules just through life experience. Now I every time I drive I question every single thing. Can I park? Am I too far right (Germany) ? I can‘t see if I still have space. Will others think I‘m stupid for the way I park? What will other drivers think of the way I just parked? Drove? Is anybody watching me? Judging me? I don‘t know how to get out of the parking space. Will I hit the car? My worst nightmare not getting out of a parking space because of the cars in front and in the back being too close. I do not have the practice of how to get out. I get sooooo anxious. Every single thing I think of now and don‘t know how to get rid of IT ALL😩😩😩 I love driving. It‘s my thoughts and „lack of practice“ or getting judged while practicing when others don‘t know that you‘re a „beginner“. With driving school everybody saw and knew and had patience now that I drive by myself no mercy no more. I need help.

Those people who laugh at your story are doing the right thing and if you'd done the same you wouldn't have anxiety! How you perceive a situation is vital to how it affects you in the future. It doesn't mean that being in a dangerous situation was or is funny, but if you see it as funny it won't haunt you. I talk more about this here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z5qVnsKmv8jJqmQ.htmlsi=qXxCFiPdfsfNrjQF&t=327 There are probably more negative things from your life that have grabbed hold of this problem and stuck to it. Problems love problems so they often group up and get mixed up. Fixing it is about working through each one and releasing it, you are unlikely to get any result from focusing on the driving issue alone.

I uses to be a full time driver for Papa Johns delivering pizza for about 4½ years. It took about 2 years for me to develop PTSD symptoms from bad driving experiences with people road raging, and its been about a year and a half since i quit being a full time driver and I still experience bad drivers and people tailgating and driving recklessly almost daily still. I often come home frustrated and agitated from experiencing or witnessing aggressive or reckless driving, and i hear the really loud engines from the speed bikes, trucks, and sports cars and it triggers me. Driving full time ruined me and i wish I could just live a life in a no-car city sometimes, which are very rare but actually exist on Earth.

I was on the search looking for someone to explain why I all of a sudden started having these anxious panic feeling at traffic/red lights. I came across one of your videos where you said it’s not the traffic. It’s not the red light. It’s something that you’ve gone through and embarrassment came to mind. Stuck came to mind but mostly embarrassed and what people would see if something happened to me, I’ve been thinking about it a lot trying to pinpoint where or when I felt like this in life and I’m feeling like it’s linked to when I was a teenager with my parents and I couldn’t do certain things because they would shame me for it or if anything happened, I would feel so embarrassed because they would see that I don’t have everything togethereven though I think all these go away, any suggestions?

Maybe I'm overthinking it but... 1) When the male cop pushes the female cop onto the chain metal fence and holds her in place, with all that electricity flying round, my first thought was - that's a bit dangerous ! 2) Did Robocop just tresspass by breaking and entering the lock in the first place. I couldn't find a direct quote online, but if anyone out there has a copy of Roald Dahls' Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, there's a section in that where the Grandmother is giving a list of "What-Ifs" to which Wonka responds something along the lines of "We don't want any what-iffers here!" Also I think the more active your imagination, the more "what-ifs" you create for yourself.

Great video. I've watched the film mentioned so many times and would love to find the equivalent of the situation. I'll buy that for a dollar!
@1stdrive
@1stdrive Ай бұрын
The equivalent is hypnosis and what you see Robocop going through when he's plugged in is what you'd see if you could somehow get a computer readout from someone in hypnosis. The closest we can get to that now is probably an ECG machine which shows a clear change when people enter trance. That's why I say hypnosis isn't about relaxing, it's about focusing and finding thoughts and beliefs that keep you stuck. It can be an unpleasant experience and the reason it often only takes an hour to fix is that not many people want to go through it again!

Your conscious mind knows it's not real but your subconscious doesn't. That's why people have fears and phobias, their subconscious is seeing danger they know consciously isn't there. Imagination is the language of the subconscious so you've already explained why it didn't work for you - it won't until you imagine and not know.

I wanted this to work and I thought that I had failed until you mentioned that it could have been a success because of thoughts that get stuck and I know how powerful our brains are and when we tell ourselves something we believe it, as soon as I told myself to open my eyes they did because that is what I told myself to do. The bucket though, as I pictured the bucket filling rapidly and I told myself it was super heavy, my arm started to lower by a couple inches. It's amazing how powerful the brain is
