I don’t know that it’s actually a first edition, but I have a hardback 1959 copy of Act One with the dust jacket and I love it. As a show business memoir it is incomparable.

I remember when all those years ago you said you wanted a book store so you could sell “Act One.” It is such a lively memoir. So many contemporary memoirs recount miserable lives. This is a wonderful corrective to that.

I remember Kitty Carlisle wearing those gorgeous evening gowns on game shows. I was a child and thought she was beautiful.

Ann, I don't know if you're reading these comments, but this video has me near tears in part because the day you recorded it was the day before my beloved 14 yo dog, Tipper, died. I read your books but have never known about your videos; a friend just sent me your video introducing Nemo to remind me that I can bring home and love a new dog even though I'll still love and be sad about my departed darling. I hope Nemo, your new family member, helps your heart heal - or perhaps heel, obeying the laws of love.

That was so interesting. Thank you both. I really appreciated the narrator of The Dutch House being a younger sibling who often had no idea, or who misunderstood, what was going on in his family. It's such a rich novel. I enjoy it all over again each time I read it.
