What size tube is best for an adult cric? We have cric kits but for surgical cric, pediatric tubes would be to small for adequate ventilation and I feel like an adult tube would be dislodged en route with that much hanging out

The passing of a succion tube could be misleading!!! You could passed the succion tube but of ther is some mug or thick sectetions specially in smokers or organophosphates patients, there will be like a “ valve effect”… yiu can pass the succion tube into the bronchus but as soon as you remove it, the secretions will in effect block the tube. My best advise, if in doubt, REMOVE THE ETT. That was the advice given my old prof, specially with children ( smaller internal diameter ETT) and it saves the patient few times. Once even mid air doing a airlifted medevac…

excellent presentation dr winters. you may never see this comment but if you do, i want to thank you for humanizing such an important lesson and reinforcing that JE was a patient and a person. we learn everything that we do to ultimately save PEOPLE not numbers. regardless of the outcome, JE was lucky to have such a thoughtful and competent physician

For adults, it is the 6.0 ET tube. Cricothyrotomy is contraindicated in children (approx age 10 and under).

Why does no one use the clamps on the catheter line? It’s there. You don’t have to just let urine spray everywhere while you get a random tray to pour it in.

there is never a need to put the pigtail catheter in to the hilt - this is way too deep. also with the stiffener in place this technique is likely to cause a lung injury or worse

I agree with Robin. The stylet doesn't need to be advanced that deep and the catheter should be inserted to the second black line at best
