Great videos! Quick suggestion, possibly? Around the 3:10 mark, you are explaining ramps. You move your mouse around to illustrate/show movement of the bit into the substrate, but the 2D background is looking down from the top. Maybe switch to 3D view and then show your ramp with your mouse movements into the material, with it oriented the way you are discussing? I figured out what you meant, but it might help others understand your mouse movements a little easier. Not a critique, just trying to help.

I want to use a 7 degree dovetail bit to make tapered holes in cylinder (musical flute) The hole will be 3/8" at the surface, the dovetail bit will be smaller (9/32"?) and rotated to create the 3/8". Can you give me a clue how to do? Vcarce Pro. One of the undercut holes is a rounded rectangel (mouth hole)

Hey Mark, I have watched this video countless times (very good by the way) but I am still having problems adding it. I have Freud 19-102 Dish carving bit. I downloaded the DXF file for that bit. When I import it into Vcarve I get the half shape of the tool design but am unable to get an open vector to continue. Any idea want I am doing wrong or if I am missing a step. Any help would be appreciated. I contacted Vectric and they said this should be added as A Radiused end ? I have no idea what they are talking about. Thanks

Hi Mark, thanks for the info last night on 3D printers on the Clack Shack and Steve V. I used to get your notifications of your live Q&A, but it is not happening now. I am a subscriber, so I don’t know what I need to correct this?

I like the metric text. I think Imperical, but 98% CNC i do in metric. Its not like we enter 2⅜" anyway, we have to convert to 2.375 Metric just saves a step.

I have 11+... What is the big benefits of 12+??? Other than the $400 upgrade cost. Would it be more beneficial to purchase aspire instead? My CNC is more of a toy at this point & not into making money from it... YET!!!
@MarkLindsayCNC
@MarkLindsayCNC 13 күн бұрын
I would refer you to Vectric's Upgrade page for more direct answers to your questions. BUT, I have to admit that I'm a bit confused. The current upgrade cost for Aspire Version 11.5 and older to Version 12 is around $450. If you have VCarve Pro Version 11.5 or older, it's currently $195. It's cheaper if you have the Desktop version of VCarve. As for what the benefits are, I'll leave that up to you. You can see what's new in Version 12 on their upgrade page. Click See More on the section related to the software you currently have (VCarve Desktop/Pro, or Cut2D, etc...) Basically, your current version still works just great. If you don't feel the need to upgrade, then I wouldn't spend the money. Vectric does NOT deactivate older versions in an attempt to force you to upgrade, like some other companies do (I'm looking at you, Trimble...) Here's the link to Vectric's Upgrade page. Check it out, and decide for yourself if you think it worth it to you to upgrade to Version 12: www.vectric.com/upgrade/

Great job. I was a little confused on the shimming. Did you put the same thickness shim on both sides of the mount or just in the middle?
@MarkLindsayCNC
@MarkLindsayCNC 15 күн бұрын
Just in the middle. Keep in mind this was on my old CNC that was made of plywood. I've since upgraded to an Avid 4848 Pro series CNC, and the tramming process was a little different. Here's a link to that video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hNyEZtSbmaiZdHU.html

Thanks for responding. My bracket is aluminum but the center is at a different opening width. So I assume because of that I should shim both sides of the mount.

If you put your cursor over the video , you'll see a gear at the bottom right of the video panel. Click that gear, and you'll see Quality. Click Quality, and set it to 1080p. That should fix the fuzziness.

Howdy! I subbed as I bought a wood CNC machine several years ago then life happened (covid) and it was put into storage. I am getting ready to pull it back out of storage and try to power on for the first time ever very soon. I got carve 3d 10.5 with the machine and until I get able to use the machine I do not want to pay an upgrade on software I have have hopes your videos help and are close to my older SW :)

Thanks for covering my a question but I was not asking about combining tool paths in a single job. I wanted to know if you had 4 same projects (4 coasters with 3 different bits in each,) how to make it pocket in job 1 then pocket job two etc before stopping for a vcarve in job 1 then vcarve job 2 etc then stopping for a profile in each job.

I just did this yesterday: four emojis (free from Design & Make); two sided, on two different pieces of wood of different sizes and thickness. First you need to create alignment pins in your spoilboard and in your stock. (good video by Becky at Vectric Software on alignment pins.) Register your Z to the bottom of the material (spoil board) that way the thickness of your wood doesn't matter. Register X and Y to the lower left corner of your material that way width and length of your material doesn't matter either. Now you can cut each design starting with say, a roughing bit; on the first coaster; swap out coasters and do the roughing on the second. (I number all my toolpaths so I don't get too confused as to which is next.). Then I do the next bit (finish, new bit, set Z zero) on the second and then back to the first coaster, same bit. My X/Y never change, and my Z only changes when I change bits. The alignment pins in the stock and in the spoilboard keep my wood in the exact correct place for each operation.
