What an awesome comback from Australia and reply from NZ, the glory days of rugby

It realy was a great f***ing match. I love the australian team of late 90-early 00s... loads of magnificent players, plus Larkham & Gregan duo and Stirling Mortlock WITH HAIR... priceless.

Tana and Chris Cullen were the dream team as I recall. One of them or both would score for ages.

I went to this game and it was one of very few times my team has lost but I left satisfied, knowing I’d seen an all-time match.

00:32 It's amazing that the only Wallaby ever capable of consistently taking Jonah Lomu to ground was Georgie Gregan. Half his size and about quarter of his weight

This is the rugby answer to the Pittsburgh/Dallas Super Bowl games of the 70s. Heartstopping from start to finish.

I remember this game started (for me) at 6am on a Saturday morning on Fox Sports World. I had only been interested in rugby for about a year, but I was able to watch this match live. Being a Wallaby fan, I hated to see NZ win...but the match itself was so fantastic that I ended up watching the replays, recording it, and forcing family to watch it with me. Truly, rugby of the gods.

Later on he propped the scrum by himself, scored a pushover try and drop kicked the conversion jogging back to halfway.

Lifelong fanatical England supporter. But this game the greatest I ever saw. I reckon the 97 ABs my greatest ever national team but these teams.....little did we know how blessed we were to have Lomu, Cullen, Umaga, Larkham, Gregan, Little, Horan, in that generation. Do we really think the game is better now? Not me.

Writing this in 2021 where rugby has become "Kick, chase, set-piece, contest, repeat". What I'd give for a game like this today.

Both teams... a roll call of all time greats. Amazing to have so much ability so concentrated. And at this distance, the result is secondary to the performance.
