My wife has asked me to try to paint our version of this, but with my wife's face. We have a 36x48 canvas and nice frame and a 36x48 poster to trace with charcoal and was intending to attempt it in oils but I see this artist appears to be using acrylics, near instant drying would be a great help and I see little blending, the artists hand rests on already painted areas so the paint must be dry already. He is drawing with paint rather than painting, basically a massive painting by numbers exercise. I would have appreciated a commentary, just subtitles would have been enough. Probably would do the flesh by underpainting in grey scale then blended colour glazing in oil. Would make a board from plywood with canvas glued to it rather than stretched canvas to have a rigid surface. Board size 91.4 x 121.9cms in metric. We have metallic acrylic gold, silver and bronze acrylics and I have done the embossed effect in metallic silver acrylic before with a syringe and needle as is used to refill Inkjet printer cartridges. We have now seen that it can be done but would be a real and massive challenge. But every big job breaks down into small tasks. I would get a real sense of achievement out of it if I could pull it off. This video has been very helpful and gives a lot of food for thought.

Bravo! It looks very good! Could you tell me what you used at the beggining for the sides of the painting? Are they gold flakes, or gold paint with some impasto to make it thicker? I would really appreciate your answer!

I believe it is gold Foil it is a thin sheet of gold that can be applied with glue that is brushed off with a dry paint brush.

Klimt used real gold and not gold paint, and her face looks off. The eyes, the eyebrows, the skin. Nobody can copy a Klimt in a few days or maybe not at all. But I appreciate that you tried.

Usually I am not a fan of gold, but for some reason there is something about the painting I really like! And yours looks like the real deal too. Well done. But one question: What was the material costs for this if you used real gold leaf for this? I mean I paint myself and the gold paint alone is already very expensive... and how long did it tale to complete with all these intricate little shapes and fields, the drawing of these alone would be overwhelming for my patience...Well done to you, keep up the good work!

sorry, completely wrong approach to reproduction...firstly you have to familiar with impasto technique...secondly gustav used gold and silver paper on impasto. not paint... thirdly your side is not looking good....choker, bracelet is not looking good...choker should be silver...finally painting side should be different gold paper laying technique...its a waste of time
