Are he valve stems the originals that came with the rim? Are the tires "E" or "G" rated?
@RVUntethered21 сағат бұрын
They are G rated. I actually wondered if they were the originals. I assume they were changed when we got new tires, at the beginning of the year. But I have wondered. I would think that Discount Tire wouldn't reuse them, but I've known shops to do it.

I'm so glad that you are safe (we've been in that tire situation before but thankfully we had a Washington state trooper who noticed and stayed with us, re-routing traffic until the tire was changed. He said that he'd never seen anyone so prepared to change a flat tire on the side of the road, as my husband was, lol). Sometimes, all you can do is laugh when you have days like this. You’re supposed to pull down on that part has the water flowing out. It’s made that way to release pressure when you put the handle down into the off position. There was nothing wrong with it.

Gotcha!
@todayisouradventureКүн бұрын
On that type of spigot you have to attach your hose to the normal connection then pull the handle up. With the water coming out the bottom pull the ring down where the water is coming out and it will pressurize the hose. Those are vacuum breaker freeze protection connections. In Wisconsin at the military fam camp they put instructions on the spigots. Hope your travels get better, you guys rock.

The Trailer Aid is a good way to bend your axle if you're loaded like you are. I never recommend them on heavy 5ers. I've straightened axles for people that bent their axles from using that technique. The 3.0 Level system will lift it no problem. I have a 45' 21k 5er and the system has no problem getting a flat tire off the ground.
@RVUntethered22 сағат бұрын
Interesting! I hadn't thought that it could do that. We did have a friend mention the levelers and we were kicking ourselves for not thinking of that. I know it's not "ideal" but it would have worked!

C &A...glad to hear you run about 200 miles between gas stops. Thats what I've been figuring for us. We have the same F350 7.3 as you except pulling a GD312BHTS. Hated to see the issues you were having especially the tire going flat on the interstate. I was genuinely fearfull of you guys getting hit from behind. On a recent trip coming home from Colorado, one of friends got rear-ended ON the interstate near Cheyenne. The driver said he didn't see them!! Regarding spare tire, we actually bought a second spare and put it in the bed. You may not be able to do that with your 5th wheel, though. Thanks fir the tip on metal valve stems. I'll have to get that done soon. Safe travels! Hopefully we run into you sometime in the future. BTW..are you guys going to GD national ralley in Goshen, IN? Take care!

HA! A little of both I suppose. We talked about it recently and I think that the camera helps us stay calm a bit, maybe by just talking through it. There was definitely some music overlay and editing on some of it, but I think time has helped us just 'get through it'. We are very fortunate to be able to do what we do and we try to practice being grateful. TRY is the key word here. lol.

Is the advantage of the metal valve stems due to the TPMS so they don’t fail as quickly?
@RVUntethered22 сағат бұрын
That's my assumption. The rubber can't handle the weight of the heavy flow-through sensors on our TST system. We had several viewers tell us that they've had them fail. The forums have a mixed review on it, but it isn't an expensive upgrade IF we can find someone to do it.

That's so nice! In all honesty, time and the camera both can keep us calm. Maybe it is talking through it. Two years ago, we wouldn't have been able to film. With that being said, we had to edit and overlay some music in some select areas. HAHA! I (Ang) laugh when I'm nervous or anxious, which didn't go over well when we first got married. LOL. My “luckiest” breakdown was in Missouri (on a trip from Virginia to Kansas). The TST went off, but the tire had only lost like 5 pounds. There was an exit about a half mile ahead so we limped to the exit and dropped another 15 pounds of air in 5 pound bursts. As we approached the exit, we noticed the sign of a tire shop. The mechanic diagnosed the valve stem in seconds and in an hour I had four shiny new brass valve stems. Best of all: only cost me about forty bucks! Hoping you find your way back to similar good luck. Thanks for sharing!

Oh that's awesome! We are in a new location now that has a Discount Tire, but they don't keep the metal stems on hand. So we're trying to determine if we can find the right size that we need to bring them to them, or find another option. I truly never thought this would be such an ordeal.

Your video reminded me of an issue we had years ago with our first travel trailer. The tires were pretty old when we purchased it used, so I went out and purchased 4 new Goodyear Marathon's. I knew nothing about rubber valve stems being an issue, so I never asked for metal. At 3 months one of the valve stems rotted and failed when we were 1.5 hours from home, and 5 miles from the next exit. It was 102 out that day and kind of humid. This was prior to tire pressure monitoring, so I found out about the tire going down when I saw an orange flash in my drivers side mirror. Shortly after that I flaming portion of tire flew off and landed in the center median, and we were traveling in the right lane at that time. Not only was there a piece of flaming tire in the center median, but what was left on the rim was also on fire. I quickly grabbed some water and put out the fire on the rim, but then had to cross two lanes of traffic to put out the fire from that piece of tire that flew off. It was a really hot and dry summer that year and I did not want to be responsible for starting a grass fire. I had to change the tire on the side of the highway and did it with a 4 way tire wrench, no impact wrench. Each time a semi went by I had to grab the trailer, as I thought I might get sucked into the lane of traffic. Hope you two don't cook from the heat with no power.
