There was a front that passed thru, so we had some weather and seas as a result, but the air and water temps were awesome and the diving was even better!

Our first dive was on the Indian Shores Reef which was established in 1965 when pillboxes and metal pipes were dropped in the water. We were dropped to drive on one of the two WWII Landing Ship Medium (LSM) scuttled boats. The U.S. Navy Explosives Ordnance Disposal Team from Cecil Field Naval Air Station in Jacksonville filled the 200-foot plus LSMs with scrap cable and sunk it with explosives. One LSM can be found on the southern end of the reef, the second LSM near the center of the reef. Our second dive was on the Indian Shores Reef. Here we were dropped onto piles of concrete from the demolition and other debris which creates the artificial reef..

This dive was the “paid” dive with the whale sharks at the aquarium. There was a dive lead, photographer and safety divers from the aquarium and 9 of us paying for the dive.

You must be a certified diver to dive, however, they also do a snorkel with the whale sharks and anyone can do that.

That would definitely be a lot of fun!! I know I asked a lot of questions but may I ask are you a certified diver and does it take a long time to become certified? I know you definitely want to learn things correctly I just wondered how long it actually took to do all that. Thank you for talking to me and answering my questions ☺️

We are PADI Advanced Open Water certified divers. Most people can become Open Water certified in about a week. You have book work, classroom work and the usually a pool dive followed by an "open water" series of dives. There are a lot of great dive organizations (PADI, SSI, TDI, etc.) and who you are certified thru is mostly irrelevant. If you find a great dive instructor that you like all will be good.

@@ScottBunnisAdventures If you do not mind me asking, where did you get your covid 19 test at before you traveled? The website says the place has to be an accredited healthcare site/lab, and I called sandals and they just said it did not really matter as long as we had the results on hand and uploaded. I just don't want to show up and get turned away! Did you use a place like CVS or just your local healthcare provider?

@@michellegarner7705 We go to Walgreens to get our COVID-19 tests. We have about a 30 hour turnaround time from the time that we do the swab to the time that we get the results. We take the first test 3 days before leaving and a second two days before leaving (just in case there is a delay, etc.). Hope it helps.
