My dog rolls in whatever disgusting smelly thing she finds. I have to bathe her but brushing her out is traumatic for her.

This was really helpful! Thanks for also explaining the use of the comb. I have a 13 week old Havanese and I want to learn to care for her coat properly so that when she goes to get groomed, they don’t have to shave her hair super short. Despite my efforts she already has a mat on her back because she kept needing rear end washing the poo off. It’s right against her skin. The rest of her fur is soft and fluffy and I can see her skin easily.

The dog is crying and flinching because it’s hurting him. Why would you not tell the owner it has to be shaved because they allowed it to get matted instead of hurting the dog? It isn’t fair.

I just adopted my first ever long haired dog. He's part Yorkie, and his hair isn't this thick. But this is helpful for me learning how to keep him brushed out. I try to stay on top of it daily to keep tangling to a minimum. Thanks for the info!

Thank you i adopted a pomeranian and ive always had short haired dogs. This has helped me tremendously. I purchased a cc slicker some spray for when i brush a comb and pin brush. My boy is black with just a smudge of white on his paws. Looks real handsome now thanks again.

I noticed that you are grooming on a table. Did you purchase a grooming table or is there some way of adopting an existing table? Trying to groom on the floor of the ground hurts my body.

What do you recommend for a sheltie (home pet-not a show dog) who loves to play outside all day and gets leaves, sticks, and all sorts of outdoor debris stuck in her coat. I thought a shorter cut around her legs and belly (and tail) would be the answer, but you seem to be saying not to do this. Thank you, Karen. (Sheltie owner)

Thank you so much for actually making a very informative video about how to take care of a doodle coat! I've been searching for a video that doesn't recommend putting silly stuff like cornstarch in the coat so I can help my clients better understand. Again, thank you for taking the time to do this ❤

As someone with a human curly haircare line and a cockapoo I genuinely feel like slicker brushes are the main reason curly coated dogs hate being brushed. We use a metal grooming comb occasionally and two denman brushes d3 and d81 daily. It only takes 3-5 minutes as they glide through. We only use the metal comb once a week to make sure there are no knots. We live in a muddy area so autumn to spring she gets bathed every two weeks. One wash is a shampoo and conditioner wash and the other a diluted conditioner only wash. We detangle with conditioner and it gets rid of any tangles and have a professional blowdryer at home which takes around 15 minutes. She is tangle free and loves being brushed and washed.

We have a f1b golden doodle and she hates brushes. We've come to the conclusion, like my wife seen somewhere, we have two dogs in one. A fluffy doodle and a shaved doodle. We tip the groomer well.

I know this is an older video…..BUT……We have a one year old Sheltie and so far….we’ve only tried one groomer and she was not happy that he barked the entire time…..it was HIS first time grooming! So far, we haven’t found a groomer who will take him. Thank you for your instructions. It helps me to know what questions to ask!

Hello, I know this is an old video but I’m hoping you will help me and reply. I also have a shih tzu which I have learned to groom at home cause a lot of issues. I have always maintained him good with combing and no conditioner rinse just spray leave it conditioner but I have been diagnosed with RA and having a hard time now. I do okay in summer cause I just shave him but don’t like to do that in winter cause he gets cold. My questions are about slickers I have never used one and having a hard time finding reasonable priced ones that will not scratch him. I see the one in your video but I don’t think they make them anymore could not find it. Please are there any good ones you recommend for home use. Thanks and thanks for the video.

MATS. ARE. NOT. BRUSHABLE. You LITERALLY SAY THAT WITHIN THE FIRST 20 SECONDS OF THIS VIDEO! Quit your clickbait bullshit. MATS ARE THE PET PARENTS' FAULT. Don't wanna do the research and see if if your dog is gonna have fur or HAIR that will need to be BRUSHED DAILY...... like i dunno.... YOUR HAIR???? That sounds like a shit ton of YOUR PROBLEM Mr. and Mrs. "Pet Parent"! I've had pet parents stand in my lobby as i'm explaining that throughout my 13 and some change career as a pet stylist that I'm not a magician and their dog is matted because they're not brushing them and tell me "UMMMMMMM.... isn't that YOUR JOB....?" It's bullshit clickbait dog abuse bullshit like this that makes those walking anuses think that kind of shit. You come to ME with a matted dog? Yeah I ALWAYS choose comfort over vanity so that dog WILL be shaved 🤷‍♀ PET PARENTS: FIND OUT IF YOUR DOG HAS HAIR OR FUR AND HOW/WHEN TO BRUSH IT AND GET YOUR DOG GROOMED *PROPERLY*. IF YOU ASK YOUR GROOMER IF THEY BRUSH OUT MATS...... RUN AWAY. GROOMER KAREN: STOP ENCOURAGING DOG ABUSE WITH YOUR SHITTY CLICKBAIT TITLES.🖕

Wow thank you for this video 📹 💗 I actually have a bit more understanding about why my tiny toy poodle get's knotted up (clean her after outside play - but don't always brush her there & then) will now ❤ Also wondering what brush do you recommend for her as I find she doesn't like the one I use (like your blue one here as hair isn't super thick so worry about it hurting her skin 🤔 Another good eye opener is do it up off her play or cuddle spots - where do I get a lead like this from so can keep her safe (not fall off a table or bench) please 🙏 Lastly tear stains do you recommend anything as my girl get's them badly (creamy coloured hair so looks extremely gross) 🫣🫶

as a tt owner yes this looks like some work, but everything is brushable, maybe with the help of cutting into it, but the activet matzapper will loosen it up in no time 2:07 and double coated hair always mats, you don't need to rub it also the dog seems to be quite well behaved

Absolutely unethical, dangerous, and horrible. You literally start off by saying the dog hates being groomed, yet are forcing it to be kept in a long haircut? "She hates her legs brushed." Humanity over vanity. "Sorry client, but I am not going to force your dog to be dematted just because you like a long haircut." And I cannot BELIEVE you are jamming shears through matting! Oh my god. Where the hell did you get trained?

I love the Chris Christiansen slicker. Flexit is great too. When I get 'cottonball' poodles i spray down with 'The Stuff'. The silicone in it really helps the hair to slip and come unmatted during brushing. Cuts down time and pulling on the dog.

I can't see the dog, but yes, most matts can be worked out. Use 'The Stuff' spray...the silicone in it is amazing. Use a Chris Christiansen slicker brush, a little regular pin slicker brush and a comb. Takes awhile, and be gentle. Today i used my method to brush out a standard poodle, which took 2hrs, and then her house bro, an Old English Sheepdog, who was bathed, dried and brushed 3hrs.

That’s a pretty standard issue, we don’t have any dog clients that LIKE to be brushed, but brushing is the most important part of the maintenance for your dogs coat. It’s not about enjoyment, its about getting mats and tangles out so that the dog DOES NOT have to be uncomfortable to be scalped because it is so matted. That is far more dangerous and uncomfortable then brushing ever will be for a dog.

@@RuralRoots57 Yeah, I can brush him with a normal poodle type brush, but the little bends on the ends of this one are too much. Haven't had any matting with the more straight wire brush.
