This song, for some reason, always reminds me of my ex step kids. I think of summers at the splash pad and the park, Thanksgiving, and Christmases, watching their little eyes with gifts. Birthdays from 3 and 4 to 12 and 13. The family I dreamt of since i was a kid. I know I was far from the greatest step dad, and I have tons of regrets. But I also know we had a great bond together. Memories of sitting up with them when they were sick, teaching them what to do with bullies, holding their hands when they were sick at the hospital, and seeing them smile at new toys. I know they've moved on. It's been over a year, and exs' new husband is a great person, way better than I could ever be. I just hope and pray they have great lives, and I'm sure they will. Being one year from 50 and hearing this song makes me cry, this old dump soul from Texas.
